1989 T5 Clutch Issue - top half of pedal travel went loose

I'm not all that familiar with the T5 and the clutch setup.

While moving the car from the driveway to the garage, just sitting idling clutch in, tranny in 1st, all of a suddent it tried to leap forward and stalled. Then the clutch pedal has no resistance on the top half of travel. The bottom half still has resistance and the fork does move. But does not move enough to disengage engine.

So what the heck happened? I have not had time to crawl under and inspect closely. From my quick look ... no fluid leaks.

- Did the Master just go?
- Did the Slave go?
- Did the pressure plate bust?

What are the common wear out items?

The fluid in the resovoir is light tan color. And there is still fluid there.
I'd say the clutch feels spongy on the bottom half.

Now prior to this ... the clutch felt pretty stiff to me. At times, there would be a slight jitter when going into gear (reminds me of my Jeep when the Slave was going). And I did manage to stall it a few times in stop and go traffic like the clutch was engaging BEFORE I was thinking it was.

Next steps:

- visable check for leaks
- inspect fork and measure movment from slave
- bleed system
- then I am not sure how to check whether the master or slave is bad.

Sorry for the questions. I'm stuck traveling for a bit ... so I can't do much more than think about it.

Mark.

When this happened to me it was a leaking slave. The rubber boot on the slave held all the leaking fluid and nothing was on the ground when I squeezed it a little it was really full.
