WC T5 same for TBI & TPI?
So I just finished a ground up restoration on my 87 IROC convertible with the 5.0 TPI and NWC T5. First freeway drive made it about 10 miles and the trans explodes. Ugh!! $800-$1000 to rebuild the inferior NWC T5 but I can lay hands on a whole car for $1000. Its a 1990 RS with a 305 TBI and a T5. If I have read correctly, by 1990 all the Camaros came with WC T5, correct? So my question is this. Is there anything different about a WC T5 from a 305 TBI versus a 305 TPI car?
In other words can a slide this WC T5 from a 1990 TBI car in to my 87 305 TPI car? I would think I could but I know zip about this subject so I figure I better ask the experts first.

Yes, it will bolt right up. It may have slightly different gear ratios in it, but it will still work. And while that car would have come from the factory with the WC trans, there is no guarantee that a previous owner hasn't swapped it out at some point. The only real way to tell is to look at the bearing cup on the front of the trans, which is almost impossible to do while it is installed in the car.
