Do a quick bit of research first about "weak crankshaft" !

It has been mentioned here in several threads that the earlier 2.8 had a weak crank which was taken care of sometime in and around 1987 , ish .

The guys here have told me of other improvements to the later 2.8 such as better head porting also .

1985 could be a small or large journal crank . 1986 and up are large journal .

I think the general rule is, if it's MPFI, it's a large journal. I might be wrong about that though.

The 85 will have v belts & the 89 will have a serp. belt system. If you want to retain whats on your original motor you'll have to swap over the water pump, timing cover & the oil pan.
