Oil sending unit?

I rfeplaced my oil sending unit today becuase it was leaking like a big dog. When I pulled it out no oil came out of the hole. Is this normal, or is some thing cloged up?

If the car is off then there is no pressure. Considering the fact that the sensor is angled up and that gravity DOES exist, why should any oil come out?
