issues with tack jumping
So i was on my way back home from the Diamond mine in Murphysboro, Ar going back to Memphis and between 75-80 the tack has been jumping ( see vid --> ). Also having issues when starting up it wants to idle high and not idle down at stops. Any ideas on wht may be causing this? 1988 2.8 also in the past 2 years i have replaced the cap, rotor, and icm. sorry about the sideways part.

Re: issues with tack jumping
since it was raining in the video , i assume the first time it has done it i will say u have plug wires that are starting to go out .( watter makes it easier for them to arc out )
my v6 car had this issues once and it was because of failing plug wires/missfire , changed the wires and havent had it happen since
though it c ould also be the tach going bad but like i said since it was raining im betting on plug wires
do this drive it when its nice and dry and if it doesnt still do it spray the motor down with a hose around the plug wires then go drive it again and see if it starts doing it again
u can also just inspect the plug wires and look for burn/arc marks , useually a small whitish circle on the plug wire

Well i went to check my wires and one was basicly fried and 2 broke when pulling them off. Glad they have lifetime warranty and the idiots even admited to giving me the wrong brand. At least they gave my money back and spent $11 more for the " recommended " duralast gold.

I dont know if you fixed your problem, but i had that same issue. I replaced my plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, and coil and that did the trick. Shotgun approach no less. I did need a new cap and button though. I think the coil is what fixed it for me.

Re: issues with tack jumping
I have similar symptoms but I found my #5 cylinder is dead as well. Everything in my ignition system has tested good or been replaced. One older mechanic told me about something in the ECM not sending proper signal to the injectors(which are new as well). Any ideas?

Re: issues with tack jumping
The fact that at the very least 5 of the injectors are working means that the ECM is not the problem the ECM you have would be a batch fire system that fires all injectors at once. IIRC the 2.8 ECM has only a single injector driver, and two connections that connect to 3 injectors each. So your problem will be outside of the ECM. Check for signal at the injector a noid light is best here, a small incandescent bulb cab be substituted though, check the injector and do a mechanical check on the bad cylinder to make sure it's not an internal failure.

Re: issues with tack jumping
Got it figured out. I always forget to check the easy stuff. Thank you though.
