Alternator noise failure V6 - replace with high output?
Wow. This thing was making the KLUNK-KLUNK sounds like crazy.
Thought about stopping for a burger on the way home, but decided to not press my luck.
Pulley locked up completely with a horriffic squeal right after I took this video in the driveway.
I think factory alternator is rated at 105 amps. Any reason (other than cost - which isn't a major issue) to not upgrade to a higher-output alternator? Quick look online is showing models for the 2.8 motor that rate 160 and 200 amps.

Should also mention that I just installed the OPTIMA yellow-top battery (as part of the battery tray rehab project).

besides the added cost and absolutly no need , just put a stocker back in it.
unless u plan on doing a massive car stereo the 105 amp is more then overkill
ive run 5,000w competition stereo systems on a stock 105amp alt with 2 batteries

Thanks.
I tried to find a "correct" OEM GM model, but they seem to be officially discontinued at gmpartsdirect.
So, took advantage of the "cyber Monday" discount at Autozone, and ordered a new (not rebuilt) 105-amp replacement, with lifetime warranty. I hope I don't have to use the warranty.

be prepared to use that warranty , i gave up on parts store alts, and starters .
now id rather go hunt threw the junkyard to find a working oem one then deal with the parts store crap
or if im lucky enough i can find quality rebuild parts to just rebuild my own starters or alt's

I'm not sure what's wrong with the old one.

Ran it around the locale today. A bunch of WOT pulls. Not one hiccup. Life is good.
