Jegs Sport Torque

Anyone buy Jegs Sport Torque wheels? I was interested in them but i dont know how the max 17" would look. I did the flash view but idk if the wheels are big enough. I'm trying to get a nice slick look, with not big fat walled wheels on the side view..

Cant help you with your question but want to say I like them. I was looking at them myself..Don't like the caps though. Its the Jegs logo on there. Maybe there are replacements.

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

I've been debating over those wheels too. I think the ones with the Magnesium Grey spokes would match up with my new paint job, and personally, I like the spinner type caps.

As far as size, I was thinking 17"x8" in front with a 4.5" backset, and 17"x9" in the rear with a 5" backset. I'm still trying to figure out tire size though...I want the widest in the rear I can get and still tuck in the wheel well, and whatever fits the wheels best in front. Done multiple searches, and it just confuses me even more.

I "think" most 17" tires will come in a 40-45 sidewall profile....

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

I want the mag. grey too since my car is black, i dont want to much chrome honestly. I was trying to see if anyone has 17" with 40% profile, i just want to see if it looks good. Because i dont want to much tire well showing and making the wheels dinky imo. Theyre very nicely priced too. Ill probably buy the caps or see if there are replacement ones with either a chevy logo or says camaro in the middle.

But hopefully someone has these and will post what they look like.

Also i want x8 all around just in case i do rotate i can do it. but i really would like to have x9 in the rear for stagger look and to grab more traction.

I wouldn't mind the Jegs logo on the spinners, but yeah, it'd be better if there were others around with a Chevy or Camaro logo...

I would go with same diameter wheel all around if it was my DD, but mine's not. I have an S-10, Cavalier and Challenger for that. lol.

The only thing holding me back is deciding on whether to go with the Pro Street look with 15" rims, (skinnies front, meats on back) - or the more refined look of the 17". I keep thinkin with the 4" cowl hood, the Pro Street look may end up looking more "in place" on my car in ther long run.....

As far as price, the Boss 338's can be had for about the same. I alreadyt have a quote from a vendor for a staggered set - $643.50 - not bad, but there's a couple of differences....they only make 18's, the spokes are thinner and they make black or gray spoked. (But the gray is a lighter color).....but I'm thinkin the 18's are the limit IMO on these cars....and tires cost more though.

-Except for Sickness's ride...but his is the exception and not the rule! lol

I think 17" would be nice with 40% if not ill try out the 45 but these wheels seem like what i truly want now. even if people have torque thrust II that are 17" with pictures thatll be great!

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

Well, after much thought and looking at a gadzillion other wheels, I decided on the 17" sport torques with spinner caps.

There are two different backsets they sell with the 17x9" wheels - a 5" backset, or a 6" backset......I'm concerned that if I get the 5" backset, the outer edge of the P275/40/17 tires might hit the fenderwells in the rear.......but If I get the 6" backset wheels using the same tires, etc. will I need to hammer the inner fenderwell and cut out the bump stop??? Anyone know?

The car has a Moser 9" rear in it, but I don't think it should matter since it's suposed to be the same width as the stock 10 bolt that came out...

I thought it was a decent question too....if anyone knows their stuff when it comes to fitment on Thirdgens, I'd love to know the answer.....or at least an opinion.....

EDIT: Well, everything I've read says you can fit up to a 17"x9.5" wide rim with a 5.5 backset (or 10mm offset) with P275 tires all around if I wanted to - but a 6" backset may be too much (unless I get 1/2 inch spacers maybe)..., and I'm afraid 5" backset won't be enough to mount P275/40/17's on them....I guess I'll keep searching or resort to spacers of some kind maybe..

Any thoughts? I've done massive searches, but I can't seem to get anything definate from them....

So - the question is....IF you were considering using the wheels mentioned above, and wanted AT LEAST P275's on the rear, would you get the 5" or 6" back space wheels??

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

I also depends on the size tire you want to use. The only way your really going to know is to have a rear wheel in front of you and setting on the car. If you don't mount the tire on the wheel you can send it back and get the one you want. Take the car to a shop that will work with you and have them supply you with the tire you want to use and break out the tape measure. Take the measurements you need to make for your final decision.

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

i bought them from jegs. and i have a nitto 555r 275/40 on the back which fits great. and i have 2 spacers i bought from advance auto parts. i believe they are 5/16??? i have 1/2 inch longer wheel studs so i can get away with this. id try the 5' bs, but i went with 6' because i DESPISE!!!!! the look with them sticking 2 inches outside the fender well.

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

1nasty86 - Thanks a lot!!
You even provided pics! They look nice on your car. I figured it would take a 1/2" spacer to keep the tires from rubbing on the inner rear fender well, but you only needed a 5/16 shim? I'm with you when you said you hate the tires sticking outside the fender well. I can't tell by the pics, but do yours stick out at all? If you lowered the car any, would they hit anywhere?
If you happen to have any pics from the rear of the car kinda down low so I can see how well the 275's fill up the fender well It would be awesome!!

Ok i'm pretty determined now to get these! Only thing is, is the backspacing for the rear as well.. I want mine to either fit or just brim the edge of the rear well lip. What size is the wheel in the rear and the front? 17x#?

Wow....that's not what I want to hear. I'm sure I'll have issues too with the blower, but I'm only running stock wheels with crappy 245/15 BFG Ecentia's all around presently. But - I would expect improved grip with 275's on back....are you sure it's not the type of tire (all season vs summer performance) instead of the rim size that's giving you the traction issues? Or the setup on the rear of the car (i.e. suspension)?

There's a point in which you won't get traction regardless at a certain power level unless you go with mini tubs or bigger....

EDIT: It looks like you're running 555R's all around? I have'nt heard of any traction complaints from anyone else running them - and there's a lot of people that have them...

I see A LOT of bump stop and inner panel cutting, BFHing, and fender lip rolling in your future...

Every post I've seen about that size, even if custom rims were made still have a lot of work to do to make that kind of size fit in the rear.

Do you NEED the spacers to have them fit properly in the back? How much were you looking to sell the wheels. i'll buy them off you!

Yes im afraid you do need the spacers. You may be able to get away with running just one. They fit fine with the bump stop removed but I think they fit too far inwards. But everyone has their own preferance

Is there enough thread to hold the wheels on after the spacers? or would i need to buy the spacers with extended bolts?

Ifu were to buy them you would need 1/2 inch longer wheel studs. I would supply the nuts I have, spacers, rims and tires.

How much would you be looking to sell them for?

Re: Jegs Sport Torque

I wonder if I was to call jegs if they could make me some new rear rims. I think a 17*10.5 with a 6' or 6.5' would fit great. And allow me to run a 315/35

As much as I loved these wheels, the backspace offered wasn't what I was looking for, and I didn't like the idea of running a 6" backspace with spacers...and the 5" back space they offer would limit the tire size I was looking for....but I'm sure they're a great deal if you don't mind using spacers.....
