Re: tire installers tire rack?

visiting a shop and checking out the premises will often give you a clue how they work.. clean shop, new machines and friendly/knowledgeable staff will give you a good idea how they work.

most high end shops have no touch tire machines and will have no issues doing 16s. even back in the day when the no touch machines werent invented people were able to mount these with no issues on conventional machines.

Re: tire installers tire rack?

Its not just scratching the wheels you should be concerned with.

IMO, all tire shops should be considered "Dangerous"
That's why I take off two tires at a time and take them in.
Because....... They "don't" know how to lift the car and will crush your undercarriage ,pinch welds and ground effects .

Scratching your paint is not a concern for them while they run around trying to nock it out in record time swinging a 3 foot toque wrench with them..
I have a very expensive paint job and taking in the tires as I suggested "IS THE ONLY WAY", I will do it.

I actualy take dated photos of the wheels before I take them in.
But its your car and your wheels.

Re: tire installers tire rack?

A good tire shop is hard to find really. In not in your area but around me there is only 1 shop with in 50 miles that I trust to jack up and change tires on my car. Even still I will not leave the bay when they are doing the work.

I agree with Ron... Most shops are not careful of jack placement, paint or body.

Now there is many shops that I trust to break a tire off wheel and put another one on.. But I will pull my wheels off at home and take wheels and new tires to them... Not my car.

I buy all of my tires online from discount tire direct, summit racing or tire rack. Done that for 15 years now

Wheely Good

Also beware if you have wheels with oval mounting holes such as Cragar SS.

The highly trained professionals at some (other) shops will cross thread at least one stud as they don’t know how to hold the wheel in the correct position and finger start the nuts.

Happy Racing !
