New modification done cheap!

New modification done cheap!
Well I decided on Sunday night (Oct 14th 01)
that I could do something to my truck and cure my boredom. So I thought I'll try to place my Small Block Chevy V8 1.6 Rocker Arms on my 2.8 liter V6. I have a V6 Performance book that clearly states that any narrow enough rocker arm from a small block chevy v8 can be used on a 2.8 Iron head. What would not work was a arm with 3/8 or 7/16 stud , because the 2.8 head has a 10mm stud. However I found that on my 1.6 stamped roller tip rocker arms for the sbc could be used if I just reused the pivot washer and the old stud nuts. So I did it, it worked and I am happy with the Increased power.
Considering the cheapest 1.6 rockers arms to be found previously were the Magnum roller tips by Comp Cams at around $169 retail and the only other listed was the extremely expensive crane cams gold full roller at around $310.
I used the crane cams stamped steel 1.6 sbc roller tip rockers which cost $119 . I actually wanted the summit stamped steel roller tips which were only $99 but at the time two years ago when I purchased them the summit ones were out of stock.
If you would like to see a picture or two and read some guy contesting my power gains then go here http://discussions.gmforums.com/show...&threadid=8645
Guys feel free to register and vote on that site adding a tbi/carb section . They call themselves a 60 degree club but dont cover 1/3 of the other engine types! Lets change that.
Also if any of you would like to lurk on the s-series .org board to get information on what other v6 owners are doing, check out http://www.s-series.org/phpBB/viewfo...?forum=21&2674
Also my supercharger pictures for the 2.8 can be found at my website if you remeber my previous posts. http://614streets.com

New rockers are no 'new' mod... people have been doing it since the dawn of time..
Oh, and that new ticking you hear isn't valve lash, it's the rockers hitting the top of the valve covers... 1.6's are a tight fit...

I'm a fugging retard....
...
I get it. Heh, sorry about that... man don't I feel stupid...
So what your saying is, that new 1.6 ratio roller rockers for the V6's cost 169 at the cheapest, where you could get V8 stamped steel 1.6 ratio roller rockers for $99...
Huh, I guess that is pretty sweet...
And the ticking... don't ask me... I have no idea what the fu(k I'm talking about... somehow i got the whole 1.6 rockers thing confused with the poeople who wanted to use fiero valve covers on thier cars, and still I'm not even sure thats what it was... someone, somewhere along the line on this board was saying they had a tick under the valve cover because something was hitting it...
I'm sorry, forget this confused little boy even posted.
Thanks though, for pointing that little mod out to us...

Is there a company out there that makes a rocker ratio between 1.52 and 1.6 for a SBC? I always thought a 1.55 would be a good idea... I'd probably go with 1.52's because of the "new" emissions test in NJ, but I might be persuaded to go up to 1.55's...

Thanks for the info, 614! I was wondering about that a while ago ( https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000144.html ), glad to know it -does- work. What do you think they meant by "narrow enough"? Narrow enough, as in, so the intake rocker and exhaust rocker didn't bang into one another?

Thats is a good question about the off 1.55 rockers. I bet if they exist then they are available for the sbc. Then you can have your cake and eat it too Tom!
