I am planning to buy some torque thrust II's from discount tire, i know i want to go with 17's i was thinking 17x8 or 8.5 in the front and 17x9.5 in the back, will any of this affect my power steering, my speedo, or anything else, and your opinions on what tire would be helpful !!! OH ! what is the largest tire that will fit on a 17x9 rim ??
I've been working at Belle Tire for over a year I know what tires are good and what are bad.
Go 17X9 all around. This will not affect your power steering or anything else (AS LONG AS THE TIRE DIAMETER IS NOT CHANGED!!!!) The larger the tire diameter the slower you speedo says your going, the smaller the tire the faster the speedo says your going. It's not a matter of how big a tire you can put on a 17X9 but how large you can go on a 3rd gen. Your best bet is to run 275/40/17's all around, that way you can rotate you tires. This is the largest tire you can run on the front of a 3rd gen with only slightly wider in the rear which is not worth the hassle of having different size tires in the front and rear. Call the Wheel Maker and ask them questions about fitting.
Run a Z rated tire. Aim for Michelin of BF Goodrich. Michelin Pilots grip the best and last the longest but cost an arm and a leg but they are the VERY BEST. If you want the best for your money get BF Goodrich Comp T/A's, they grip very good and are priced reasonablely but don't last as long as the Michelins. You could go with Goodyear but they are much more money the the BF's and aren't any better a tire. If you want to e-mail me the company you have in mind and I'll give you my opinion.
