Proform Distributor

From Jegs
-$170

I figure why buy an ignition box when you can get a whole distributor for $170. Would I see an improvement on a basically stock motor? (with a high output coil, plugs, and 8mm wires)

You are right. The Proform distributor is a good deal. I use the coil myself.

proform is cheap. for a little more money you can get a pertronix or msd distributor. also, there is a large difference between distributors and ignition boxes. a box will give you better combustion, a good distributor can do that too, but the proform is probably more like a step above stock replacement.

Second what unknown_host said except it's not as good as OEM. Put one of their small cap distributors in my car and the module crapped out on startup and the baseplate that holds the module worked loose from the main body when trying to set the timing for the first time. Returned it for credit, got a stock rebuild, and was much happier.

I wouldn't pass up an ignition box for a dist. I have the kit from Proform that includes the cap, rotor, coil, module, and advance kit. It has worked flawlessly for me since I put my engine in. I have buzzed the car to 6800 a few times, and it hasn't so much as popped once. I am very happy with it. If I was comparing a box to a dist. though, I would get the box.

I would buy a good coil and a set of wires before doing either. You'll see more of a difference from that alone than either of the others.
