I put 3.70 gears in my 9 bolt and I gained almost nothing in the 1/4. It was hotter outside that trip to the track though.

If you have 2:77's in your ride you are going to have to change carriers too for a change-over to 3:70's. That means $$$$$$ Try to buy a whole rear end setup with 3:xx series gears in it. It's alot cheaper. I did it !

I swapped in a 9-bolt 3.27 for my origional 3.23 open 10-bolt. It was rather straight forward. I think you can get a ring spacer, but that also might be for 10-bolts only. If you could find a locker or spool for a 9-bolt (I have never seen one), then that would be an alternative to finding a new (or slightly used) posi... good luck finding any of those though.

1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in... K&N filter... 93 octane...

I got the GO... I need the SHOW... Interior is next!

I found the 3.70's on DTS too, but thats all they had. I have 3.45's now, but my posi could be going out. I know I can shim it, but who sells the posi unit? Borg Warner in Australia?

Where would I get a new carrier anyway? And what on Earth is a carrier?

With the cheap prices on ten bolt rear ends, it really makes more sense to buy a whole rear rather than just the gears for the 9 bolt. Granted, the 9 bolt is a bit stronger, but it still would not stand up to any REAL level of power.

Just as an example, I have a 10 bolt 3.23 posi rear end from a 97 Z28 that I got for 150 dollars whole, in perfect condition. I don't have it in yet since I have to get fourth gen wheels first, but those 17" SS wheels are lookin mighty tempting .

If anyone's got some spare 3.27 9-bolt gears, I'd be interested since I'm also running the 2.77's. If you know of any, please let me know!
