Super Chevy "Danger Mouse"

Just wondering if any of you guys had read the recent "danger mouse" series of articles in Super Chevy magazine. As of right now, they are claiming to be pulling 386 flywheel hp and 440 lb/ft of torque out of a 355 with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap manifold, stock heads, Comp XE262 cam, 1 3/4"(?) headers and a Road Demon 750 double pumper.

I'm thinking that those "stock" heads MUST be ported. Doesn't that seem just a bit extreme?

Furthermore, it doesn't seem to me that the 1 3/4" headers match very well with the heads and cam, nor does the 3 1/2" exhaust that they have out back!

Anyways, I was just wondering what you guys thought about this setup... I've got the XE262, a Holley 750, 1 5/8" headers and I can afford to get the intake... It would be a cheap project if the engine actually made that much power - flywheel or not.

I believe they say so in the article. The heads were slightly ported.

Just checked

According to the first article, the heads are not ported, however, they were milled, and new roller rockers were added, and a complete valve job... and I'm thinking that while they were in there, they figured that those ports looked a little rough - they ought to get a bit of a grind... and hell, why stop at a bit...
