LPE 74211 cam questions

Hey guys, what are the best valve springs and retainers to run with this cam on an L31 Vortec headed 350? Also, are there any piston to valve clearance issues when running this cam? Thanks

You will need to cut the spring pockets and cut the valve guides down. Once done, I recommend the Comp Cam 987-16 springs. I've used them with the LPE 74219 cam and 1.6 rockers with great success.

By the way, how is the Holden that GM is bringing to the states?

So I cant run with standard diameter heavy duty type springs? (like the CC 981-16 or SDPC Z28 springs?)

The Holdens are a full sized car, they're heavy, and about as slippery as a brick compared to the F-bods. But they do go well with the LS1 motor. The Holdens are a good family type car if you need room for 5 people in comfort etc.

You will need a spring with 120#-130# pressure at the seat and 310-325 open pressure. I am not sure what the 981-16 spring has.

Hey DownUnder,

I'm using TPIS p/n 700-132 springs on my vortecs, and I am using the LPE 74211 cam. They just drop right in after you remove the inner dampner spring - no machine work to the heads required (easy as can be). There is no issue with removing the dampner spring (my machine shop guy and TPIS both agreed on this). I've had no problems with these springs, and I regularly "thrash" my car on the street and at the track (as you may already know). These springs only lift to .540, so you can't go 1.6 on the exhaust (it would be .560 with 1.6s on the exhaust). I am running 1.6 intake (.533) and 1.5 exhaust (.525) with the LPE 211. Hope this helps.

Later - Mike........
