I wasn't sure where to post this, but i was curious if anyone on the boards have changed their oil recently and used the new AC Oil Filter for our cars. AC has discontinued the PF-25 and went with the PF-454. It is alot shorter than the 25. I was wondering if anyone had any complaints with the filter. Whether it is during installation/removal or the actual performance of the filter.
Haven't seen that one but I never use the 25 anyways. Prefer the 35 since it's bigger.

IDP.........bring'n it back once again!
Forced Induction 427?..........................on HOLD!!!
Currently have:
Stealth Ram......In polishing phase
Soon to be World Castings 427 sbc
SLP 25lb injectors
I always use the 35 too for the extra capacity. I would not use the 454 if its capacity is less then the 25.

Hey guys, I currently have go the AC PF-454 on my 5.7L IROC-Z TPI. To be honest with you, I wasn't too thrilled to find out that I had to use the new, shorter style PF-454 in place of the old PF-25. Does anyone know of an AC that is about the same size as the PF-25 and will fit my engine? I don't want the short style that I have on now for my next oil change, so it AC doesn't make a longer one that will fit, I guess I will be using a wix. Part number(s) anyone? Thanks! -89IRO
Glad I use the Wal-Mart Tech brand st-5 its the big one for our cars. They are a great filter for less than 2 dollars and never had a problem with them like a I did a Fram.

Benny- thanks for the part number. Are you sure that this filter (PF-1218) will fit the same as the old PF-25 and the new PF-454? I wonder when I asked the guys at autozone if there was an alternative to the PF-454 he said no. Thanks. -89IRO

This is actually the 350 truck filter, I got this Idea out of a Camaro Performers magizine, I use it on my 5.7L TPI B4C. If you go to Autozone or another store just ask for it by PF 1218, the listing is actually for trucks.
So the only reason it is for trucks is because of its larger size? But of course it will still fit for my 350 TPI right? What is the advatage of going with a larger filter like this as opposed to the PF-454? I might just try a wix filter next time, part nuber(s)? -89IRO
For the guys at the top who are running the 35 filter, what engine do you guys have? Will this filter fit my 5.7L? If so, what is the difference between it and the 1218? -89IRO

This filter fits my L98 TPI just fine, offers larger filtering capacity.

It fits my 305s. Its the same filter as the pf25, only taller.
pf35 here. been running it since my 2nd change (used the 25 the first time). i use it on my LO3 and my brother's 95 LT1 T/A.
seems like it was (smalles to largest):
pf25 -> pf35 -> pf1218
i've never used the 1218, seems a little excessive for my little 305. i saw a pic posted once (it dropped down to right around the bottom of the oil pan. never had a problem w/ the PF35's.
I don't get why you would say that increased oil filter area would be "excessive" for your 305? More filter area is better no matter how you look at it. The filter doesn't come lower than the oil pan so you'd be just fine. I run the 1218 on both my 5.7L Iroc with the oil cooler and my 305 RS without no cooler.
I wondered about that too. The 305 and 350 have the same oil capacity and oil pump. Although not AC/DELCO I use a longer filter too with no problems it doesnt extend passed the oil pan or interfear with the exhaust. You really shouldnt have any problems either.
i didnt mean my car wouldnt benefit from the larger filter. it's just that w/ the PF35, i have no heat problems, my temps are fine. i know it's just an extra coupla bucks for another quart of oil, but i just sorta feel if it's not anything pressing, i'd just save it. just my thoughts...
EB- is there an easier way to find out if I have an oil cooler, than doing this? I don't feel like crawling under there until I have to change my oil next month. By the way, is it a bad thing if I don't have an oil cooler? Wasn't it an option from GM? If I do have the cooler, where on the car is it located? -89IRO
PF25 is stock and too small. I don't like it for obvious reasons.
PF35 is bigger and I thought the same size as the PF1218. The difference between them is that the 1218 has an anti-drain back valve. Not sure what engines got the 1218 but it rocks! The PF932 is the best if you don't have an oil cooler. Seems a little too much but you can naver have too much oil and filter. It's not a carb, it's a filter!!!
I just can't seem to find the 932's so I settle for the 1218. BTW, does the 932 have the anti-drain back valve? I was looking at the 35's and I noticed that some of the newer ones have the silicon diaphram just like the 1218.....makes me wonder if FINALLY AC Delco got their act together but then you guys said this new filter is smaller than the 25

KC4 : COOLING SYSTEM, ENG OIL
IIRC, the KC4 came "packaged" with other required RPO's.

haha ya beat me to it, I thought I was gonna be able to add something useful to the convo too I use the 35 or the 1218 interchangeably, whatever happens to be in stock at my store when I plan to change my oil. Like someone said the only difference is the anti-drainback valve in the 1218. I think the 35 supercedes to the 1218.
hey guys i got the PF-23C. i havent installed it yet. does it really matter. is it THAT small that'll screw me over some how? i can return it but was wondering if i should use it and just get the BIGGER BETTER next time? what u think?
Hey what's everyones beef with the Fram filters? I like this board alot but sometimes I get sick of everyones hangups on whatever. I understand some of it like some B&M products but many times I don't. I like Frams in my GP, I also have gone from AC plugs to Bosches and now I'm gonna put a set of Champions in.
There have been various "tests" done in which filters of various manufacturers have been cut open and inspected. The standard conclusion seems to be that fram is at the low end of the quality scale. I'm sure if you run a search on "best oil filter" or something to that effect, you'll find discussions and links to some of that sort of info. Personally, I haven't used, much less cut open a fram filter, so I don't have any firsthand thoughts on it. I've read what everybody has seen, and looked at pictures as well, but that's it.
And than there is (was?) the AC PF35L performance oilfilter with synthetic inside screan.
The AC Delco UPF 1218 Ultraguard Gold Premium oil filter has the same size like the PF 35(L) AND has the synthetic inside WITH anti drain valve, and is the best choice for all V-8 's with or without oilcooler.
When it first came on the market,it was only sold at PEP Boys, but I think GM dealers can order it as well part nr:25322841.

Van Chevrolet list price for that part number (25322841) is $2.61....purchase price...$1.83 ???? This can't be correct.
If it is, what a steal.
Appears to me to be the price of the gasket, but the description is "Filter Kit".
Hey Paulo,
Buy as many filters as you can,for that price!!
I think they made a mistake, but who nows!
I live in The Netherlands, and have to specialy order them, for about $15-20 a piece!!
But for me they are worth it!
