And i put in 100/90 watt bulbs. A few minutes later i took the 100's out because they get WAY to hot, so i got a set of 60/55's. Now my question....Now that I am running the h4 conversion for my lows and standard bulbs for my highs im getting a bit of a problem. When I have my low beams on the high beams are now on but very dull and brownish. When the high beams go on the low beams become dimmer. What is causing this and is there a fix to turn the highs off when I am not running them?

Yeah I had that problem with my old ones, and they said that I had to put in relays, so I sold them and bought just the low beams and I think I am going to buy the GE big rig lights or whatever people call them.
Modify the harness to match the H4 configuration above and everything will work correctly.

I converted all four of my headlights to the Euro Crystal-Diamondback H4 headlights. Basically after rewiring the outter pair (former low beams) accordingly, the high beam lamps glow a nasty brown (even with 5100k blue bulbs!), but when you hit the high beams, ALL four go to high, which is cool. However, I hated the brown glow, so there are two options, but they share the same downfall. I disconnected the high-beam wire from the outter pair, this got rid of the brown glow, so when you hit the high beams, the outter pair go off, and the inner pair go to bright. The problem with this is that by disconnecting the high-beam wire, it changes the circuit of the bulb making both outter low beams WAY low and nasty. So I tried using a relay to make all four come on high, it works, there's no nasty glow, but it's the same exact problem with the DIM low beams. SO I tried just unplugging the inner pair, so that the outter pair were high and low beams, and just use that, but it's the same problem, the low beams were WAY dim and gross. So I'm currently trying to figure out a way to dodge the nappy brown glow and have bright low beams. In the meantime, I've settled for the glow, I have blue bulbs installed in the inner pair (white leds in the outter pair), so I just leave them on and it makes for a strange pool of light. I'll post again if I have any success, I'd really like this to work out.
Basically what I believe is that the way the H4 bulbs are setup a small ammount of current flows from the active low beam to the inactive high beam, since the source for the high beams comes from the low beams, the high beam enclosures recieve this current making them glow. Anyone else have an idea? If I have time this evening I'll sit down with an h4, multimeter, the Camaro, and try to figure out what exactally is going on...
i have mine working great if i knew how to write up a diagram i would help you out. all 4 are on all the time my only problem is the switch, when i turn them on high they stay on after i turn them off. i also have the extra power for the lights ran directly off the battery.
I now you guys are all discussing H4 bulbs, and I had the same brown looking color out of my highs too. I just stayed with the sealed beam bulbs and got Sylvania's new silver star line. They are pretty bright and they don't look ***** like those other sealed bulbs. The claim to fame with these is that they just burn slightly lower than real HID light. I doin't know if thats true, but they are pretty white and 100% street legal
I had the same problem, I just bought an H4 wiring harness from Painless thru Jegs. Then I ditched the H4 conversion all together because they were the dimmest lights ever, and tried 3 different bulbs! I bought Sylvania H4656CB cool blue lights (that's the low beam part #) and with the harness they are the brightest lights I have ever seen, let alone in a third gen!
i have that slight brown color going onto......i am thinking after i install this wiring harness it will go away
the only thing i did to the factory wiring harness was chnage the two wires around leaving the ground in the stock place...works fine except for the brown tint
ok. well on my 88 i bought the h4 conversion kit from hella which comes wit the wiring harness for the low beams so that part was easy just plug and play. Now my question is for my hi beams, i bought eurolite housings which accept h4 bulbs. but theres no wiring harness available with that kit. the wiring harness on the car has room for just two prongs (hi beams) but my eurolite housing only accept h4 bulbs which have 3 prongs......so i cut off the top prong on the bulb to make it fit into the wiring harness. on this diagaram (picture on the right) that prong i cut off was a low beam so is wut i did safe? or am just a butcher?

Do a search. there are several threads about these issues with h4's. probably cutting off the prong is fine since you won't use it anyway. It is recommended you upgrade your wiring harness for the reason that h4's draw lots more power than the sealbeams you've replaced. If you seldom use hi-beam, you may be okay, but if you do use your hi's with regularity you'll burn up your headlamp switch. there is a tech article that describes how to do that, or you can buy the apc harness from jegs or summit. This upgrade runs the lamps off of the battery and uses relays to keep you from burning up your wires.
