Ever thought about having it fabricated out of aluminum and then polishing it? Hell, you could even chrome plate it. I don't think it would be that hard to do with the right tools and knowledge of course.
I was at a car show recently and saw a tricked out '84 Camaro with a chrome radiator cover among other things. I asked him where he got it and he said it was from a 2nd gen Camaro ('78 specifically). I asked him if he had to modify it and he said "very minor mod" to get it to work...
I've looked for them for 10+ years for 3rd gens, but no luck. Could it be that a 2nd gen cover would work just as well?
The problem is that our radiator supports are held on by 4 or 5 bolts, not 3 bolts like the 2nd-gens. I guess if it's 5 bolts, then one could drill the 2 additional holes since the other ones might line up, but you'd want to measure the distance between the holes first on both pieces...
I just went through the catalog three times, and couldn't find them. I found the factory replacements that are finished in black, but no chrome If you get the part number let me know. Thanks!
I wanted to let you know that currently we are not offering a chromed
radiator support for 3rd Gen. Camaro's. To my knowledge there is not one on
the market (at the moment that is).
Unfortunately the only way to obtain one at this time would be to have
one chromed by a shop. You never know what could come out in the future
though so please keep c checking back with us.
Please let me know if you have other questions and THANK YOU for
considering Classic Industries as your source for parts and accessories.
That really sucks! I was going to order one of the ones for the 2nd gens, but I just looked at the car and the cover also helps hold the dual fans on. One of the brackets off of each fan actually bolts into the cover itself. Oh well I guess I will just deal with the black one that is on it now.
I read over your letter with the item number from your group member.
The item that he mentioned is actually for a radiator support top cover
versus a complete radiator support (your original letter called it that).
I checked on the T9675 part number for the top cover and it looks like
unfortunately Trans-Dapt who was our supplier has discontinued the item and
we have not found a new vendor for them (yet). Until we are able to offer
them again, you might wish to keep an eye op[en at a swap meet for a vendor
who has some old stock or perhaps look into having one chromed (I'm not
sure how much that would cost though).
Please let me know if you have other questions and have a great day.
I have one that I had fabbed at a shop out of billet aluminum and then polished. There is a link on my web page to J & B Microfinish. If you send him a template I'm sure he can help you out. The bad part is I can't tell you how much I paid for it since I had a lot of stuff done at the same time and he never itemized the bill for me.

i bought mine at a super chevy show. this guy had a small trailer setup with nothing but chrome stuff. it listed to only fit 85-87 non A/C cars so i asked him abvout it and told him that i wanted it even though i had a 91wit A/C. the thing fit perfect. well, that was 96. about 8 monthes ago, i gave it away to my buddy since it look better under his hoo dthen mine, now i have new car and wish i had kept it.
Hey Boys!! Just got back from Orlando FL where I was visiting the Rat!! While I was there I had some parts from my motorcycle cermachromed,(sorry different topic). The point is that the owner of the shop I went to gave me the September issue of Cruisin' Style magazine.
Now in the mag. I found a company that chromes plastic,polyester,epoxy resins and Fiberglass. The "add" reads as follows;
Real Chrome plating on Plastic
Copper ,Nickel and Chrome electroplated on any type of rigid plastic, polyester, epoxy resins or even Fiberglass.
Custom Coatings Corp.
4794-C Woodlane Circle
Tallahassee,FL.32303
(850)562-0538(Voice OR Fax)
Now as a warning I have never used this company and don't want to be connected to this company in any way.
I saw the question on the board and had some info to share about an "Add" I found in a magazine. In the future I will call them and ask them, but that will be after I get my Z painted at a shop I went to a while ago that impressed me after seeing the work they do.
Keep your noses clean and drive safe!!!!
Hey guys! I happen to have one of these on my
82Z28! I bought it several years ago at my local speed shop. I remember it being for a 2nd gen because the owner said if it didn't fit I couldn't return it because it was on his clearance table. I think I gave $7 for it! Anyways seems to me like it was a Mr.Gasket or Transdapt. Can't remember. I'll look in my Mr.Gasket catalog at work and let you know if it's still avail.
F-Bodys 4ever!!
It was a perfect fit but then again I have a
2nd gen radiator in my 82.But I think it
would work just as well with a stock radiator. Day off today so I'll check my books tomorrow to see if I can find it.
REFRESHED,
i want one !!!!! anyone ever find them?

I like the look of the chrome radiator cover, but i have something else in mind that you guys might be able to give me tips on, i want one made out of polished diamond plate aluminum.. is that stuff hard to work with? i mean if i end up having to fab one?.... thanks... josh..

Diamond Plate is really tough stuff. Its harder to work with than stainless or carbon steel, only because its harder (as in density not in effort) so it just depends on the type of equipment you plan on using to cut and shape it.
