I too have talked to miles in the past about the rear cover but it was allways "this srping.....etc". I would like in. I would contribute to shipping, and the money for mine is set aside just let me know.
Early this week, the sponsor who is involved in this emailed me to let me know that he had found someone locally who had a perfect donor 9bolt rear to send to TA so they could make a pattern. I don't know if he was taking it to them or if he was gonna ship it, but he's a reliable source so chances are....it's already on it's way. Once TA gets it, I don't know how long it will take for them to make a pattern, and come to production. When I spoke to Dave @ TA last week, they were still eager to recieve a donor rear so they could get started on a cover for us. All we can do is wait. As soon as I recieve any info that is worthy of typing......I'll post it here.
Draino
PS: Although I'm not updating the list since we already have enough people to meet TA's requirement to produce them.....anyone else who wants one please feel free to post here just to let those involved know how many are wanting to get one.
this is great, i have my 3.45 9 sittin in the garage waitin to be put in place of my 3.27 9. hopefully ill have a job by the time the cover comes out so i can slap one on it. lol it took so much time and for the people involved gettin it done, a lot of effort, once i get one of these covers im gonna cherrish the damnd thing!!
I might be in. Put me on the "probably" list. My 9 bolt has a good cover. The plug is good too. I'm more than likely going to get it sent out to get chromed and filled. But if all else fails, put me down for one!!
It's not gonna happen that quick. These matters take time. It could be a couple months at the least. The more of you call TA Performance and ask Dave Sommerville when they're gonna have this ready....the quicker it will happen. Heck, just call and try to order one....that gets their attention. Then they know they have somebody ready with cash/credit in hand. Squeaky wheels get grease.
Although it's no biggie to pop the cover off, drain the oil, put the new cover and gasket on and refill it. Most of us have probably been putting off a lube change anyways.
I don't want to read this all again for a phone number, do you have one handy?? I'll give Dave a call. I also will get Rangelec to call and give this a push.
The snow in nothern Minnesota may be here till the end of March or early April as we have a bunch!
Thanks for your work on this, Jack
im Highly been thinking about putting a 9 bolt in my car instead of the 10 bolt in it. i heard that they are alot stronger and read a website about them. so if i put a 9 bolt in and one of these covers later on when they get produced. what could this be compaired to or rated at or whatever you want to say. iv got a 400cid, probably putting out anywhere from 350-400hp and would this support it? ill be running a 5-speed for now as well. and since theres no recent replies im guessing theres no new news. maybe ill give the guy a call and bug him about it.
Also since getting any parts has been a problem from 9bolt.com, does anyone else know a place to get 9bolt parts? I need to get a "rebuild" kit to handle some new power
what the hell is going on with this lol. you can put me on the list to buy one. have they even started making them yet? i was to lazy to read this whole post again for updates...
Kontrax, I called Dave at TA Performance today and he informed me that they are waiting on the shipment of a core to use in the design of the cover but assured me that as soon as they receive the housing that they will proceed right away because of our response to this thread. I don't know who was suppose ship the core housing maybe someone will respond???? Dave, redbird87
No they haven't. Every lead I've had has fell through so far. People act sincere to help me and then in getting it from the garage they've got it stored at or from their buddies or whatever....thier interest seems to fizzle out once they realize I'm serious.
I'm gonna have to go buy one I guess. That's bull**** considering several people on this board have ones they'll never use, or they think they're going to sell it. IMHO...a 2.77 or 3.08 9bolt is only good for the axles. You're really doing someone wrong if you sell them a 2 series 9 bolt in my book.
What they need is for somebody who's got an intact 9bolt rear to:
-drain the oil from it
-remove the brakes and pull the axles (the only things worth -having off of a 2 series 9bolt)
-cut the axle tubes off right at where they join into the center section
-put the cover back on
-put the center part inside a couple heavy trash bags and tape it. If you don't and it leaks some oil or smells funny, the shipper will refuse it or send it back.
-put it in a properly sized box
-contact me for shipping info and so I can pay you for the shipping charge to TA Performance.
It is extrememly important that the carrier and ring gear be intact inside the case so that they can get their measurements and clearances. That's what allows them to make a pattern and then start production.
A worn out one-legger rear or 2 series posi that's worn out would be a perfect candidate for this. One that is grenaded and the guts are in a million pieces or the carrier or gears have been robbed out of isn't going to do us any good.
I doubt that TA will give anyone a free support cover, but whoever can come through for us with this will have the respect, admiration, and gratitude from all of us who are waiting on a support cover.
DUDE !! It's me again, I can do this. I haven't swapped my rear yet. It has just been too freakin misserable here in Jersey to drive the car so working on the car hasn't been a priority. It is parked in my freinds shop with my new 9 bolt laying on a dolly next to it. I could pull it out this week, cut the tubes off with a plasma cutter, box it up and it's there dude!
Dwain, As I stated in a previous post I will assist in with a donation towards shipping this to Phoenix!! Please let me know when to send money, Dave. :yourock: mike graycar
Bad news, I have to work this weekend so I am going to pay one of the guys down at the shop to swap rears for me. I would like to say I will be ready to ship Monday, We will see. This has been so long in the making that I don't want to drag my feet. plus it would be nice to have a cover for this summer.
Thank you so much for following through on this! You're a credit to the thirdgen community!
When you find out what the shipping comes to please post it here. There are several of us who agreed to chip in on the shipping charges. We should all still stand behind that!
I still do.
I assume you already have the shipping address, but if you need it I can dig it up for you.
Mike, Please count on my sharing in the shipping costs. I echo Dwain-- you are what the thirdgenorg is all about along with so many others that develop and share info and/or parts for our precious hobby cars. Thank you doesn't seem enough but thank you. Dave:hail: :hail: :hail:
I was gonna call Dave tommorow and get the address as well as any special shipping instructions and to see exactly what parts he needs. Will keep you posted-mike
There's no way to know yet. We'll have to wait until the rear gets to TA and they have a chance to check it out.
I'll probably call Dave in the beginning of next week to see what he has to say, or have him contact me when they determine what timeframe were dealing with.
