Count me in too.......I have been wanting to change my ugly 9 bolt rearend cover......will this new one be aluminum by chance? Please let me know when they are available and where to get them....thanks
I just talked to Virginia over at TA Performance and she said that it is going to be another 5-6 months before it is completed. I wonder what the real story is...
How does it take a year and a half to build one when they already have the CNC? They have the model... They are slacking big time... No matter I am going with a 9"
yeah they are slacking. When I mentioned I was interested in the 9 bolt cover and that Ive been tracking its progress over the last YEAR, there was a lot of nervous laughter. How can they think its not profitable? I mean, just look at the list of people that have expressed an interest in it lol
I may drop out. i have 4 months before my car goes in storage for 2 years. moving to japan can't bring the car with me. I called them yesterday talk to a lady who answered the phone said 5 or 6 months. well I have to see.

Japan But you need your thirdgen there to take out the skylines Actually from what I understand thirdgens are getting VERY big over there. Convertibles are going for $20k, etc... Which would basically be $6k plus shipping
so they tell that one board member that called, the first of spring (3 months or so) but everyone else that calls, they say 5-6 months. I dont get it. wtf....
I decided not to sell my parts and finish the car. I did give up on the 9bolt though. I'm getting a 12bolt or a 9inch. 9bolt just isn't strong enough for what I'm doing.
I do have a nice set of axles with only 6k miles on them and a set of pbr backing plates for sale.
I don't think TA is gonna come thru on this guys. They just don't seem serious. I appologize that I even contacted them and got this whole thing started.
If I were you guys, I would just call ARP and get some hi-grade studs or capscrews for the bearing caps and be done with it. Cost me like 15 or 20 dollars shipped from ARP for 190,000 psi capscrews.

This is a real shame.... I'd still like to stay on the definite list for now, but the more and more I think about it..... the more I'm thinking about just replacing the damn 9-bolt (which has essentially NO real aftermarket support) and go for a nice new Moser 12-bolt rear end.
Draino:- You have nothing to apologize for! We are all grateful for the effort you have put into this. It's not your fault that it's delayed or cancelled.
I would also like to say thanks for all your help. It doesn't matter to me if they make the cover or not. I'm glad that people in here have had ideas and tried to get thing made. Like the nice set of C4 brakes i got from ebmiller.
I just got my part from Mike for my 9 bolt. A 3.73 gear with carrier and install kit. I'd like to know where you got your axles?? that one thing i'm looking for. Are the after market or stock? I'm sticking with my 9 bolt. thanks for the input and all you help.
Your heart was in the right place. You picked up the slack when the prior 9-bolt cover manufacturer flaked out (hard to believe this is the second company to drop the ball on this!).
I talked to staff at TA Performance, told them about the rumour of them not making the 9-bolt diff cover. They said I was WRONG. They said they are indeed making it, it just isn't happening as fast as they or we want. Most things never do. They have the line set up for something right now, then they're doing a run of another item, then it will be the 9-bolt covers turn. I can't remember what items are before us, I was told, just can't remember. But we'll just have to wait the cover's turn on the assembly table. I was told by them that if anyone doubts this information, CALL THEM. They'll let anyone know the lowdown, and aren't BSing anyone, they will give everyone business, but there isn't enough hours in the day to do everything they want or cover all their customers at once. Don't forget, right now they are a heavy BUICK shop, so we have to wait our turn. Not a shot at any other shops, but you don't see shops catering to our cars jumping on this item for us (eg. SLP or Hawks, etc. - again no shot at them, just making a point) We're in line behind the Buick boys, and I think that's how it should be. Just be patient, and lets wait our turn. We haven't had a cover till now, what's another possibly couple months.
I decided not to sell off my camaro parts and finish my project.
I did give up on the 9bolt though.
I called Julie at TByrne yesterday and got in on their Strange 12Bolt GP.
For $1449 plus truck freight I got:
82-92 Width 12Bolt, 33 spline axles, 3.91 pro-street gears, Chromoly 1350 yoke, and complete assembly.
For $440 from Randy's Ring & Pinion I got a 33 spline 3 series Detroit TrueTrac for the 12Bolt. They're drop shipping it to Strange, so it can be installed in my 12Bolt.
I sold most of my 9 bolt parts, but I do have a good set of axles, 11.65" Rotors, and PBR backing plates I need to get rid of. The parts are from Robert Crisifulli's 89 TTA that only have 6k miles on them. PM me if you're interested.
I was gonna do the stock 89-92 setup with EBC rotors. I'm thinking of upgrading to 12" rotors though. Instead of doing the C4HD setup...I may buy a Baer setup with the Eradispeed 2pc rotors if I can get a good deal. TByrne is having a gp on Baer also so I'm thinking about it.

Why wait? Look at the one that Summitt offers. I thought it was the best of what's available.

SLP now sells an aluminum cover, which they claim will fit either the 7.5 or the 7.625 (that's the 9-bolt, right?). $99.95. Here's what SLP says:
SLP now offers this aluminum differential cover that improves the durability and appearance of the differential and makes basic maintenance a snap. Produced for SLP by AAM, this new cover is constructed from aircraft quality, cast aluminum. It makes the differential housing stronger, offering a firm "back bone" in place of the stamped sheet metal cover. It also includes special passages, cast in to direct and control the "spray" of oil off the ring gear. These passages pass the oil through special cooling fins on the rear of the cover. The oil is returned to the housing directly over the ring gear carrier bearings. This keeps the fluid up to 80% cooler, increasing durability and reliability immensely. The cover includes a drain plug that allows you to drain the gear oil from the differential without having to remove the cover. Minor modifications to the axle housing are necessary to take advantage of the cooling capabilities of the cover. All hardware and installation instructions are included. This cover is designed to fit GM vehicles equipped with either a 7.5" or 7.625" differential. Call for applications.
This cover is advertised in the section for 82 through 92 Camaros, although the actual heading says it is for "93 to 2002. I'd call to get the specifics, but it is after 5:00 p.m. here in California and they are closed. I'll check tomorrow.
AH, actually no, the 7.5 or the 7.625 are 10 Bolt, whereas the 9 Bolt is a 7.75... AKA, Borg Warner Australian - Also AKA , Australian Dana Model M78 (since Dana bought out the factory and tooling from Borg Warner)...
When the new covers are ready to be sold, I would like to replace the carrier bolts at the same time. Does any one know of a "ARP" p/n to replace the carrier bolts with an extra strenght bolt??? Thanks, Cocacolakidd
I ordered a set from arp direct. They were 190,000 psi capscrews. I believe mine were 3/8-16 thread. I forget how long. Just call arp and tell them what you want. You could also do studs. That would be even stronger. I THINK they use the same bolt on the covers as a 10 bolt. You possibly might be able to buy an ARP rear cover stud kit for a ten bolt and just use 9 of them. TA is suppose to offer a stud kit for the bearing caps and probably one for the cover also. If they ever get it done.

Anybody talk to these guys lately, they absolutely will not return ANY of my many attempts at emailing them. I knew when this
started and they started dragging their feet it would be a while but this has become absolutely frigging ridiculous.
Either make the damn thing or just tell us the truth that you are not interested. Geeesssus.
I *just* called TA performance. I spoke with a guy named Jan. I told him I wanted to know when the 9 bolt cover is going to be released. He then put me on hold to ask someone else. When he came back, he said "we're probably a couple months out on that. We have a design made we just need to finish it up and produce it"
So, there you have it I think im gonna stay on them like once a week or once eevery 2 weeks just to let them know we are interested and so that they dont wimp out on making these.
