Car: 02 WS6 White/Ebony Engine: Stock LS1 w/SLP Lid Transmission: T56-Hurst Billet Plus Axle/Gears: Stock 3.42 | Attention all 9Bolt Owners! And board sponsors. Like many of you, I want a support cover/girdle for my 9bolt Borg-Warner rear and I'm tired of waiting on Miles at 9bolt.com. It is evident to me by my numerous email conversations with him and the length of time this has been going on that he has other priorities besides this.
I have spoke to Dave at TA Performance about this. They are a very reputable company and they make the best ones on the market and for several applications. Most of the ones sold by reputable vendors are made by TA (including Ford Racing/SVO). The others are just cheaper imitiations copied from them.
Dave said they have considered making one but have only had a few inquiries about them, so haven't. I have explained that there is considerable interest in this and asked them what it would take to get one made for our application.
He said that if I got at least 20 people lined up that it could start the ball rolling on it and that the more people interested....the more likely and quicker it could happen.
Their covers sell direct for $159 and the stud kit's which replace the bolts sell for $19.95; however, Dave didn't know an exact price yet.
Ours should be similar in price. He didn't know an exact price because there is no number yet of how many will be made, but common sense tells me that the first run would probably cost slightly higher than what the others are listed. That is an assumption so don't take it for gospel. I'm certain that it would NOT be more than $200 each to have them made.
What I need is for everyone who is willing and able to buy one to respond here so we can decide if this is a go.
If you are unable to buy in right now, but will be soon, please make a note of that in your response because you may be a player in this by the time they would have them ready.
However, please do not respond if you are not serious, or are not going to be able to buy one. That only makes me look like a jerk and hurts my credibility in their eyes. And I am serious about this whole thing, so I don't want any monkey-wrenches thrown into the plans. I don't want this to be like the carbon fiber hood attempt, or some other efforts which come to mind.
Either you're serious, or you aren't.
I am in talks with a sponsor who is looking into this and if he gets involved, we will do this as a group purchase. If that doesn't work out and I am not able to find one interested in getting involved with this I will see if we can direct pay TA Performance individually, since they are a reputable company and that would prospective buyers more at ease.
I've posted this on some other sites with links to this post, but please try to spred the word. The more people, the cheaper the price and the quicker they produce them.

Kudos to mike graycar, he is shipping TA a donor rear.
Now we need the cost/time figures from TA Performance. Waiting on decision of involvement from possible vendor.
Sincere thanks,

Car: 02 WS6 White/Ebony Engine: Stock LS1 w/SLP Lid Transmission: T56-Hurst Billet Plus Axle/Gears: Stock 3.42 | Thanks Dave. No money is needed yet.
I'm trying to get a vendor involved in this that would:
1) Add volume to the order
2) Give us clout with TA performance- they'd take a business more seriously than a joe schmoe like me. Plus they have experience in getting things like this started, whereas this is my first go at this.
3) Allow us to send payment to-to get this done. I know alot of you would probably be more comfortable sending a reputable business the money instead of me. This could probably add alot of prospective people who want in but don't trust me.
If none of them will, then I'll tackle this by myself.
If we get enough people willing to go in, I'll contact them and get specifics and then well work out the money arrangement. When it gets to that point, I'd like to have a solid amount to tell you guys and make the payment arrangements something we all (or the majority) decide on.
I'm easy, I don't care how this is done, just that it gets done.
Thanks again.

Car: 2004 GTO Engine: LS1 Transmission: T-56 | I pre-loads the caps that support the bearings for the axles and differential. It keeps them from trying to exit the rear through the diff cover.
When the pinion turns, the ring gear and differential will start to shift towards the rear and puts stress on the bolts holding the caps in.
This is what causes broken ring gear teeth and axle bearing failure. |
