That's nothing new. That's why racers do it. And that's what the theory is behind these "ready-made" plugs. And as I said, from my experience with small engines, they definitely do. And they should in a larger engine, too.
Please explain this. It doesn't give a wider gap or a longer spark. Wether the gap is measured from the center or the edge of the electrode a gap is a gap is a gap. It'll be the same cut back or not as long as you do it correctly. Also the length of the spark is determined by the ingnition system, not the spark plug. It will however expose more of that spark to the air/fuel mixture giving a better, more complete burn. This however is not a gimmic, as many race teams and engine builders use and have proven this mod to work. As for the plus 4's or any other plug like that, please explain how they can do anything is the spark can only travel to 1 electrode at a time. Now you yourself agree that the cut back electrode works. you even said, "It's nothing new, that's why racers do it." If you understand the concept behind the cutback electrode, you will also understand that the concept behind the plus 4's is exactly what you are trying to get rid of with the cut back mod. If the cut back mod works, why would you try to reverse it by blocking the spark? Yes there are 4 electrodes, but 1 spark can only happen at a time, so please tell me how 4 will do anything, except look cool.
