Save you some time....
I run 15x10 6" back spacing.
That is the widest you can get keeping the tires within the fenders (important if your car is lowered as mine is). I running a 295/50 tire (26.6" tall). It's a very aggressive look.
I have seen wider on a jack up rear end with tires sticking out the beyond the body.
Hope this helps...I know this info would have save me the cost of a set of 5" back spaced wheels. Also...for the front 8" w/4" B/S & 265/50's you could go maybe a 1/2 inch more but would rub @ near full lock. This is only good if your going w/ 15" wheels. Hope this helps some.

"Space" in the back of the wheel....
The measured distance from the center section of the wheel (the part that the lug nuts/studs hold to the hub) to the rim's edge (bead area). Looking form the rear of the car to the front: how much the rim is "offset" (another term used) towards the suspension compared to the location of the center section/hub. Example: 9 in wide wheel with 4 inch back spacing would have apx. 5 inches of rim sticking out beyond the lung nuts and 4 inches of rim covering the brakes.

I am problably going to go with 15 inch by 10 inch wheels in the back..im getting the mickey thompson sportsman tire. the tire size is 29x12.5-15lt..the o.d.is 28.8 and the tread with is 10.6. will these tires fit under my wheel wells in my 89 camaro with the correct backspacing? what do you think the correct back spacing is as well? thank you matt

That combo should work. On a lowered (1"+) ride, the tires would probly hit on the outer edge (well up into the fender well) on the roughest of bumps. The back spacing needs to be 5.5" (w/ rolled fender lips) 6" stock fenders. A note on wheels that size: if you jack the car up by the chassis (like a lift) the rim "can" contact a small bracket that sticks out in the fender well, you could make some straps that would control this...it really dosen't damage anything if they contact.
