L98 heads and cam????

getting a rebuild and i know what the short block is going to consist of (Federal Mogul rebuild kit) but i'm trying to research on the heads and cam for it. For the cam i was thinking about a LPE 74212 cam or ZZ4 cam both under $200, will i need computer tuning for these cams? And for the heads, the machine shop offered to put 2.02 valves and ZZ4 springs into the stock cast iron heads. i'm not sure if the heads will flow for about 300hp that i'm looking for and if they are worth investing in? should i get other heads or does anyone know what can be done to these heads to flow better, i'm kind of on a budget too. appreciate any input

rebuild bottom end kit=$400
cam=$200
labor=$400

modifying cast iron heads=$500
aftermarket heads=????

Car Stats= 87 L98 Iroc, built 700r4, Throttle body, CAI, exhaust, Hypertech Chip best 1/8 time= 8.9

Stock heads will need porting to get were you want two be.

My choice-Lpe 219 cam, AFR heads. On an '87 MAF motor you will not need chip tuning but it always good to do anyway.

Dude, Do a search. This has been gone over A thousand times before.

Oh, and you'll need to modify your intake if your gonna get to 300 h.p.

I read a GM spec on the L98 heads, they said it will support 300HP on the stock configuration

Actually L98 heads flow well enough for over 350hp, its just a matter of getting the intake and cam to make power at the same point in the curve.

I would honestly go for either aftermarket aluminum heads or ported L98 Vette heads (aluminum) - both flow a lot better and are more receptive to porting.
