1A Auto Parts Review

I recently purchased three items from 1A Auto via Ebay. I found the service of the company to be great, and thought I'd post some brief remarks about the quality/fit of the parts I purchased.

Outer Door Handles: These seem to be of fairly good quality. I believe that they are very slightly shorter than the factory pieces, but I haven't measured one of the old handles to find out for sure. If I didn't throw them both out, I'll take some measurements and post the results for those wanting to make sure they are using parts identical to GM originals. The plastic "lock arm" that comes on the handles, for latching onto the latch actuator rod, seems to be of a softer and less rigid plastic than what was on my original handles, as well. Whether they will prove to be less durable remains to be seen. But, the handles have a solid feel once installed and are light years better than my broken originals, and at a decent price.

Outer Window Felts: Nice pieces. Just a hair shorter than the originals, but not enough to matter, IMO. The PS piece went on easily, in that all the screw holes on the new felt lined up with the holes on the old felt. On the DS, it was a different story...several of the holes did not line up at all, so I had to make new ones, which took a bit of work since the door glass is in the way while trying to drill or punch new holes in this area. To be fair, I really don't know if maybe at some point in my car's history, it had a door skin replacement or got tweaked or something, thus shifting the location of the mounting holes.

Door Weatherstrips: These are manufactured by Metro. They are vey soft, high density, and fit pretty well. I did have to pull and stretch the molded ends a bit to get the screw holes lined up, and one on the DS front portion of the door just isn't going to line up, so I'll have to make a new hole. My biggest complaint about these weatherstrips is that the molded ends lack the plastic inner bracing that the originals had. Because there is tension on the molded ends after you pull them into place and secure them, I fear that this lack of a plastic inner support will cause the rubber to fatigue and tear over time, especially since some of the areas under stress are fairly thin. I decided to use some washers to try and spread the compression force over a wider area, but this is somewhat unsightly. Painting the washers black will help, but I would prefer next time to buy weatherstrip that has the plastic inner bracing.

Hope this is useful for anyone considering purchasing from this company. I'd buy from them again.

I bought a headliner kit and carpet kit from them. I am impressed with the quality of both products. The headliner required minimal trimming to fit right.

You could use a razor to split the rubber end. the cut a piece of black plastic to match the shape. use some form of glue wether it be super glue or plastic epoxy. Just make sure it will work with rubber. Give it a day to dry and put the screws through with the washers. With just the washers the vibration will still allow the rubber to rip over time. With the plastic insert the rubber doesn't have to take all the strain at a single point. It spreads the force across the glued area.
