Holley 4175

Anybody replace there old stock Q jet with a holley 4175? If you have, do you think it's a lot better performance wise, and are there more advantages with it than the stock Q?

I may be kinda biased, but I'd have to say any Holley replacement beats the pants off a Quadrajet carb. For me the Holleys are a lot simpler to tune and understand, especially if you're talking about the computer controlled Quadrajets. I've never been able to get those to run just right. I know people who paid around $700 for a brand new replacement CC Quadrajet, and their car still didn't run any different. IIRC, the Holley 4175 is the spreadbore Quadrajet replacement carb right? For what it's worth you'd be better off going with a Holley 4160 or 1850 series with the square bore baseplate. The reason I say this is that you'll have an unlimited choice of better aftermarket aluminum intakes you can run with the square flange Holley. If you buy a spreadbore replacement carb, you have to mess with adapter plates to run the better aftermarket intakes. You might want to look into the Holley Street Avenger series carbs, they're quite nice for a stock replacement/upgrade. Just my .

I was only thinking the 4175 because I think it hooks up to all the stock emmisions. But you do have a point with the base plate. I'll probably go with a street avenger because I know there really easy to tune and it fits on alot of aftermarket intake manifolds. thanx for the opinion.

I have heard nothing but great things for the 4165 model 6210 double pumper. It is a spreadbore design that will bolt up to your stock manifold. 650 cfm but it won't retain your emisions, at least I don't think. I rebuilt a few and the people who bought them loved em.
