Wasn't really sure where to put this, so I went with this section. Sears has a Craftsman floor jack on sale right now for like 70 bucks. Have you guys had good luck with these? If not, what brands are good? Thanks.
I have the red/silver craftsman aluminum jack also. NOTE: they only have a 12month warranty on them, not like mechanics tool lifetime warranty. The jack is "D Bomb!"
I have one of the crapsman rapid rise jacks (black and yellow). It sucks! Sure it gets to what your lifting quick but once it gets there it peters out. I know a couple guuys that have the same problem with the same jack. Dont get this one!

Sorry but I find that real hard to belive. You and "someone you know" bought $100 jacks with a 1 year warranty, took them home to find they didn't work but never took it back?
I have the rapid rise black n yellow SUV jack and it works great.
You either have an air leak or are low on jack oil.
They some times leak it the package was upside down.
Was the box oily?
Cause any idiot can make a hydrolic jack that works well. The principal is so simple. Several of the earliest cable tension bridges were put up with a home built jack that fit in the guys suite pocket. Craftsmen is well beyond home built 1940s stuff.
black and yellow jacks do suck, could be low on oil, but i never messed with them
i have the 200 dollar aluminum high rated one and have had no problems with it at all...has the large aluminum roller in the front instead of 2 wheels.
I have an old school craftsman 3 ton jack that works to this day. ITs the big old gray one they used to sell. It must be at least 10 years old. My buddy has the aluminum quick rise jack. He likes it alot but he complains that it doesnt go high enough.
I have a little cheapo craftsman jack. I'm not sure what model it is, but it was cheap isn't capable of lifting a whole lot. I might be pushing it's limits sometimes, but it always does the job.
I bet you SSC and "someone he knows" all got Frame oil filter with cardboard blow out plugs too?

why don't you reread what I typed and not treat me like a newbie ok.
I said....they could have been low on oil, but I never messed with the jacks. Meaning I returned them, no reason for a brand new jack on 2 separate occasions to need me to tear into them when they're brand new and the box didn't have oil all over. Maybe I could give you a ranking system too, but I'm sure you won't like it either.

I have the red and silver Craftsman Racing jack that's low profile. I love it. 6 months now and never a problem with it. I wanted the one from hotrod (same basic model) but they wanted an extra $100.00 for it.

I have the jack my friend Mike has one, Ben canned his already. If you want me to take a pic of it for you I will, hell I'll even go across the street to Mikes shop Tuesday and take a pic of his jack as well. Mod's keep this open till Tuesday. I think I'll run over to the shop tonight and take a pic.
I had problems with my jack 1 week in, got a replacement and it does work but has the same problem the rest do. No they are not low on oil! You start to pump usually 1 or 2 pumps depending on what you’re lifting and it gets to the frame. Then as it hits resistance and starts to lift you have to pump the crap out of it to get anywhere. It acts like the ram has a bad seal but it doesn’t bleed down. Again it's not low on oil or have an air pocket. The rapid rise bypass valve is screwed up. I still have the jack because my Mom got it for me for a birthday present and it still works in a pinch.
I am offended by what you say Gumby. I do not BS anyone, most people on this board know that.
Here is the pic of the jack. The lights in the shop were cold and the pic is crappy but it is a #50238. It wasn’t a cheap jack either Sears is selling them for $200 on sale. My Mom had got the combo with the stands. The jack stands are top notch. I am serious about my tools. They keep a roof over my head and food on the table, not to mention I put my life at stake when I use most of them. Sears says this particular jack is a rapid rise to the saddle (lift point) then pumps like a normal jack. With these you have to pump like crazy to gain height as mentioned above this is most likely due to a faulty or for crap designed bypass valve. I would not recommend anyone purchase one of these #50238 jacks. When they were new the jacks worked properly but they did not operate properly for long.
got one of those craftsman aluminum ones, raises to frame in one pump, and does fine from there.. but left unattended whatever you had in the air will be on the ground when you get back
its actually a friends, i figured it was leaking fluid but it still pumps fine and theres no signs of a leak
What I want most out of a jack, rather than brand, or speed, is lift! So many jacks have such short lifts (like 13-15 inches), which is no good for getting the car high enough to do exhaust work, fuel tank removal for fuel pump, or getting the tranny out from under. I ended up with, of all things, an el cheapo $39 jack from Harbor Freight - it lifts 19 3/4 inches, I've had it for a year, it sits outside in the weather (I have no garage), works great every time, gets me way up on my jack stands for fuel tanks, tranny's, and such - and at $39, who cares if it poops out next year!
Might not pay to have one shipped (check their website), but if there's a Harbor Freight close by, check them out. They don't have the world's best tools, but they are cheap enough to totally trash and replace with ease.
#1 reason I got the rapid rise SUV jack form sears.
I looked everywhere and it has the highest lift I could find at a reasonable price. All i wanted was a high lift, brand wasn't even a conserdation.
Other wise I am a HF fan too. Only with HF tools could I afford to get into the powder business. 3+ years and tons of loot in my pocket that would of went in to over priced tools.
i have 4 of the craftsman 3 ton black and red jacks. not the speedy lift type. they are ok for about 6-12 months of use then crap out. this is under severe use though (daily). i am down to 2 and have the replace the other 2.
the problem with them is when they get old you have to pump them real slowly or they will not lift. if you pump the jack "normally" (fast) it will not jack the car up. the jacks are full of oil and bleeding does not help.
best guess is the pump is failing.

wow i found this in a google search interesting tgo came up
anyway the black and yellow crapsmen professional jack is a piece of **** and i ****ing hate craftsman
mine does the same ****in thing it will go up to the car and than bypass and wont lift it.. or it will lift the car up set it on jack stands and you than you cant get the car off we are talking about even a small compact 87 grand am here.
this jack has had so light use i worked at a shop so very rarely that i used this piece of **** jack. one day my car was stuck in the air and couldn't get it down cause the jack broke.
i tried everything to try to get a new one or this one fixed and they refuse to do anythign, i tried the district manager, store manager, sears customer service all are dumb. the same week my jack failed my shitty crapsman compressor blew a seal from the copper tubing from the engine to tank. it only had like 10hrs max on it was 2 years old so it was out of warranty ****in pricks.
I had bad experience with the alumium racing jack from craftsman..POS
If you want a good aluminum jack get the torin from pepboys or go to harborfreight..I put alot of years on those jacks already and they dont leak like craftsman did after 2 months,,But to be honest i still prefer the steel heavy duty jacks..the aluminum jack only gets used at the track or emergency situations
my craftsman aluminum one was great, for about a year. then it started to leak, and now i have to refill it every week or so. i just ordered this from matco while i still had my student discount, normaly 321, i got it for 215
low height is 2.5 so hopefully ill be able to jack up the t/a without driving onto boards first
