Car: 89 iroc Engine: 5.7 HSR N2O Transmission: TKO 600 Axle/Gears: 3.70 9 bolt posi | Ram Powergrip HD clutch | I just installed the Ram Powergrip HD clutch (PN 98730HD) in my 89 IROC and I thought I would report on it. This is appears to be a very well built, heavy duty unit as it should since Ram claims it will hold up behind a 700 HP engine! I previously had a Zoom multi friction unit. The Zoom was a nice setup with Kevlar on the flywheel side but was otherwise a step up from a stock unit. The Ram is heavier in every way. The clutch has a 8 puck iron and organic friction surface and the hub is heavier and seem all around beefier. The pressure plate has a thicker (+0.020") diaphragm with a thicker friction piece and heavier hardware etc. The set came with the throw out bearing and an allignment tool. (to add to my collection!) The clutch feel is not noticably harder than before but it does seem to have to be pushed in a bit farther than the Zoom unit. The friction point is a little low (just off the floor) but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I haven't pushed it hard yet as I only have about 75 miles on it but it seems to grab positively. Also, the advertisements in Summit and Jegs say you will get some clutch chatter with this unit but I haven't noticed any yet. I will update this later if I have any more info but as for now I definatly recommed it. | | |
