I'm sure a lot of people on here have the B&M Megashifter, including me. They make one specifically for 3rd gen F bodies. I really like mine, not too bad to install, I did spend a lot of time getting it adjusted just right and stiffening the floor and the shifter itself to elliminate a lot of sideways flex. Overall, I'd recommend one.
x2 for the megashifter, its a really nice piece. my only complaint about it is the t-handle likes to come loose alot, and it seems that when i tighten it, it likes to get "tight" at a different angle each time, so i have to adjust the bottom nut to get it to position right.
I have B&M Quick Sliver - good ratcheting action - as easy an install as any. But I have found that up and down action to get the car in reverse or park can be a little ornery. Ball type handle stays in place pretty well. You will have to modify console to make it fit right.
Yea, I'd go with the megashifter-looks perfect in my 87 irocz. You can put the plate right over the exhisting center console shifter plate(made of plastic--hint hint don't break it!!) With minor cutting to it-it gets my
nope but it isn't that hard to work or at least i don't think it is.

The problems I have had with mine are: the supplied cable is very long, like 5ft and it only needs to be 2-3ft. So you have to loop it around on top of the tranny, and I think that is why mine takes a good amount of effort to shift it. B&M does sell cables in different lengths in 3,4,5ft. The second problem is it had more sideways flex than I liked, but I got that fixed. The first pic is where I welded the floor to stiffen the area. I welded two little rectangle pieces on the shifter too that you can see in the second pic. I haven't bought a shorter cable yet, but I remember reading somewhere that they are universal but have the same ends as the cable included with the megashifter.
As for the shift pattern, it is basically the same as stock- park is all the way forward, etc. Once it's in OD, it ratchets down a gear at a time to 1st, then it will ratchet up to nuetral. To get back to reverse or park it needs to be in OD, then you can pull up the lever and put it in nuetral, reverse, park.
Does the gear indicator work on yours who have megashifters?

mine is hard to shift too just like yours, i thought it was the cable, but it turned out to be the tensioner inside the trans pan. i took it off and it moved thru the gears with no effort at all, so that factored out the shift cable being the problem, but i put the tensioner back in, cause its needed. also my cable is the 5ft length where i had to loop it on top of the transmission and zip tie it at the back of the trans, not a problem for me tho.
I'm planning on getting a megashifter in the near future. I see that they(B&M) say it doesnt work in a formula but after doing a few searches on thirdgen I see it will work just need to cut the console alittle.

I did file down the detents on the shifter itself a little, my main problem was when trying to go from park to reverse, it was hard to get it to stop at reverse instead of going straight to nuetral. I'm still thinking my stiffness might be cable related since when I had the stock shifter it was easy. Then again that was the stock tranny. I guess I've never tried the stock shifter on my new tranny. Oh well. Someday I'll get'er figured out.
I have the megashifter as well.A nice piece of gear and looks great in the car.The only trouble i had with the install, was when i shifted, the mechanism was pushing up against the console,so i had to file a bit off the back, then everything was ok.
FWIW, B&M also makes replacements shift gates for the factory shifter. Gives you lockout shifting while keeping factory look and saves you a bunch of $$$.
I have one in my car and have been really happy with it.

yep mine did that too, but i just put some washers under the shifter plate in the front.
You already know I like my dual gate two a lot. But for the same price as a megashifter and the fact that it's brand new, just about everybody is going to get a megashifter. I was lucky enough where the person I got mine from supplied me with the instructions.
Are you saying that the instructions for the dual gate 2 are hard to come by? If needed, I can scan mine and put them on the net. I like the Dual Gate 2, but as far as I know they don't make them anymore.

Could you explain how it operates? Is it just like the mega shifter, in that it only allows you to move one gear at a time? Any draw backs to having it? How was the install? And Jegs list it for $45, is that about the price you got it for?

Yes, it allows you to move one gear at a time without over-shifting. You basically use the detent button on the handle for lockout shifting.
Install was pretty easy. Remove the stock shifter, remove the stock shift gate, install the B&M shift gate, re-install the stock shifter. Done. No trimming, shimming, filing ...etc.
As for price, I got mine for free. A buddy of mine is a design engineer for B&M and he's the one who designed the shift gate. He gave a couple of us prototype units to test out in our cars. We even did the install at the B&M shop.

Awesome.
Thanks for all the info, I look forward to buying one very soon.
megashifter works good, but alot of what they are saying has happened to me. shift knob comes loose alot, had to put a cable in already because of the loops. but it will work with forward and reverse shift patterns and you have never miss a gear.
That is Awsome!! thank you

That is Awsome!! thank you. Type it in to google (B&M 81071) they have one for $32
Has anyone been able to buy one? I ordered one from Jegs but after waiting for a month just recently found out they canceled my order cause they are no longer made.

thats Jegs for ya! they have some of the worst customer service i have ever seen. I actually talk to one lady there who was nice.... i think she was new there cause she hadn't got into the Jegs attitude yet. my story is in the aftermarket vendor review section on them. basically after waiting several months on a set of heads that i ordered i canceled the order, and one month later i received the heads, and they accused me of lying, saying that i never canceled the order, and refused my refund... i finally got refunded after a couple of months of the extra heads sitting at my house. next time order thru Summit Racing. and i know im not the only one who has bad things to say about Jegs. sorry for blabbing about this.

dang that sucks that they discontinued the part.
i wonder why?
i wish i had known about that when i got my megashifter... i wouldnt have wasted my money.
i dont hate the megashifter, but the newness has worn off and its more of a pain than its worth IMO...
unless you have a manual valvebody, there is no reason you will need a ratchet shifter.
granted its nice, but the megashifter is poorly engineered IMO.
the knob comes undone constantly, and is always getting tarnished and needs constant polishing... not to mention that it gets 1000* in the summer heat
im thinking that a generic ball would solve my problems because it would be painted so i wouldnt have to polish it, i could screw it on as tight as i wanted and it wouldnt come undone, and would make shifting better.
another problem i have is that its a bit hard to find reverse in my megashifter.
its like reverse doesnt quite line up right and i have to jiggle it around a bit to get it to engage fully
Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.
