Is anyone using this cold air induction kit from BestCarPart (ebay).
If so,let us know if there is any performance gains or is it roughly the same HP gain with the stock parts and a K & N filter....
Thats the closest we can get without ripping the car all up.
You could remove your high beams and replace your outer lenses with hi-low H4's or HID's. Then you could have that big whole of a light bracket throwing air into the engine bay...do this with a split snorkel and you have both sides sucking air in right from the headlight bracket....
Just a thought of getting CAI without ripping the car apart...just removing weight I say.
It's really "ripping the car part" as orginal equipment can be put back in 10 minutes.
Just a lot better looking than a K & N filter sitting inside a black can IMHO.

Haha, I dont even know what you said...everytime I read it IDK if its towards me or someone else. IDK if this is a good thing or bad thing? Whats a black can and why would a K&N be in it?
LMAO. Im all .....
I just have to say this is making me crack the **** up...I cant stop laughing at the fact of how confused I am at such a small wording.
Yes, I have one of these too and its actually pretty decent. I think I want to exchange the filter for a K&N though.
If you swap to another, more prominent brand of filter, look into AEM.
They have a new line of reusable filters (DRYFLOW) that DON'T use oil. They also claim you can wash it, shake the water out of it, and put it back on the car right away. No waiting around for it to dry out. http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=93
I picked one up for the CAI on my GMC truck. A soon as the K&N needs cleaning, the AEM goes on.
They should have one that matches the size/shape of the Bomz filter.
You should buy the kit that has only the filter and piping for after the MAF. This is becuase the elbow they give you narrows on the inside bend to like 2.5".
Also, I ordered a red one. Received a blue one. Sent them an email and didnt hear from them for weeks and after numerous tries, they never gave me the correct order. Horrible customer service.
As for someone saying that it looks like a "hot air intake," no matter what setup you use, the piping will be subject to heat soak. As for the heat of the air being sucked into the filter, what else would you do, shove the filter into the fender? There is already a huge hole near the fender where cool air can pass. Also, touch around the coolant overflow when the hood is popped. It could barely be called warm. Just my opinion.

Have a look at a stock air induction system on a T/A and you'll know what I'm talking about.....
i make ram air that fit directly under the stock air intake and they come out under the fog lights.. better than anything i have found yet and its more of a sleeper application! if anyone is interested i can provide pictures.. contact me

agreed i think by using the stock air box and building ram boxes that take in cold air ware fog lights would be would be a much better set up verses sucking in warm air in the engine bay...granted its a nice looking set up... using ram boxes would work a hell of alot better in my opinion...
hey guys i read this post amd have been debating for a loooong time if i want take a chance and try one of the cai's so i finally ordered the kit from Best Car parts, it should be here some time next week, so ill let u guys know how the install went, also this is gonna be on a camaro, not a trans am so the fitment i think will be a little off
im also thinkin abot cutting a hole under the battery tray, but i ll wait and see how this intake fits first

Got my CAI from bestcar in the basement waiting for the bird to leave the nest in 2 to 3 weeks if the d*#* snow ever stops....
Also got some new valve covers....post some before and after pics when finished...
Thats a nice looking kit, which one did you use the 94- 97 kit or the later one. I am going to try it, but i might relocate my battery and use a 90 degree elbow through the battery try. get that fresh air from the bottom.
yea i thought it would have been here by march 20 BUT ups tracking number said theres a "hold" on it at the border now
so if i get it this week and get a chance to install i will def post some before and after pics
and at first i ordered the 93-97 camaro one but i called the and changed it to the 90-92 trans am,i think it should still fit on my camaro, i guess we will see
ok so i just priced it out, $11.99 for rubber piece from 4" throttle body to 3" tubing. $18.99 for 3" 90 degree rubber elbow. $11.99 on ebay for 45 degree 3" aluminum tubing with 5" of tube on each end of the bend.(can cut for the peice that goes from throttle body to the 90degree elbow.) now assuming the maf is 3" diameter (havnt measured) u need a 3" coupler for $8.99.
so all added up thats $52 not shipped and not including an airfilter. assuming the airfilter that bomz sells is good, id go with the entire kit on ebay.
@ BretD 88GTA
i see u have a maf. were there any other peices u needed to purchase to make it work? and was it the 88-89 kit u bought? i dont see it being any different from my 87... also how is the air filter quality? comparable to k&n?

Yes, I bought the 88-89 kit. I did change one piece. The kit came with an additional 4" to 3" reducer. 4" is a little too big for the MAF. I went and bought a Spectre 3" to 3" coupler to connect the air filter tube to the MAF. You can see it in the pics I posted.
I also bought a Spectre bracket kit for $11 at Pep Boys to secure the air filter tube in place. I'm running a larger aftermarket radiator and can no longer use the factory MAF bracket.
The air filter seems decent enough. Especially since I don't drive my car every day. They run around $20 at Pep Boys if you were to buy one separately.

I recently installed one of these kits on my car.It fit ok and seemed to help the throttle response a little. I think the factory T/A intake is very restrictive, so almost anything will help.I'm working on some type of air box to keep out the hot air.

Some pics of the CAI installed.
About halfway through the engine bay clean up (install new plugs and wires, install new aluminum valve covers, clean up and hide the wiring.
they sell all the stuff you need at most autozone's...
the filters are pretty crappy, go for a k&N
It will probably cost more at AutoZone. I compared the pieces at Pep Boys (Spectre brand) and the eBay price was better.
On filters, I'm starting lean away from K&N. I changed out the K&N on my truck for an AEM Dry Flow, and so far, it appears that my gas mileage has actually improved by making the switch. I won't know for sure until I run a few more tank fulls thru it.

yea, plus the chemical that u use to clean the K&N stuff messes with ur MAF.
