no port for 9th injector?

yes, this is another stealth ram question, but i have done my research which has answered most of my questions. On stealthram.com they said that there is no port for the 9th injector on 85-88 cars, and i have an 87 GTA. will i still be able to go with the stealth ram?

stealthram.com also said the stock TB will work, but i have heard of many people that had problems with their throttle cable and clearing the fuel rail. i was just wondering if anybody found a way to use their stock TB with the stealth ram with no problems?

Re: no port for 9th injector?

i have the stealthram and i love it! here is what you need to know before you start: [1]the stealthram does not have a 9th injector you need to up grade your tune ( chip) to a 1989 tune, 1989 tpi does not use a 9th injector and the enrichment is done through all 8 injectors for cold start! if you dont upgrade, the car will be hard to start in cold weather. you wont get a check engine lite by leaving the 9th injector unpluged because their are no diagnostics for the 9th injector. [2] 1988 and older throttle bodies fit perfect,1989 and newer use diferent cables and the linkage will hit the fuel rail
it can be clearanced but its just easyer to use the older style, [3] fuel rail kits are available with adjustable and non-adjustable press regulators, holley had issues with the adjustable regulators , dont know if they actually fixed the problem but i didnt bother with the adjustable i got the non-adjustable kit got the car running first then upgraded to a kirban adjustable press regulator later... the stealthram fuel rails use grand national regulators so any adjustable GN regulator should fit.....[4] the stealthram flows A LOT more than
the tpi ever could, you will notice a drop in low end torque but the 4000-4500 rpm "wall" will be long gone the car will love to rev, the stealthram also likes more timing than stock you can bump up the timing a little or your best bet is to have a custom chip made , that will fix your cold start and timing! good luck
----------
by the way the stealthram does NOT fit under a stock trans am hood. you will have to modify it

Re: no port for 9th injector?

thanks for the tips! i will only be driving my car from around may to around september, so no cold weather starts... do i still need to upgrade to the 89 tune?

when you get the holley fuel rails for the adjustable regulator do they actually come with the regulator? the guy who sold me the car put an adjustable regulator on and i think it is a grand national.

i am a little worried about the loss of low end torque. is the loss very noticable and will i be able to spin the tires with ease still? i am getting a stall converter so that will hopefully help.

Re: no port for 9th injector?

you dont NEED to upgrade but it does help a lot their are a few updates in the
89 tune that GM put in but the car will run without it..i am using a 89 corvette tune in my car the HSR likes more timing than the camaro/firebird tunes have, but you can get away with using the stock chip by turning up the timing at the distributor for now, save your money for more parts and get a new chip made after you are done,so your not paying for multiple chips!
both fuel rail kits come with regulators, save money by getting the non-adjustable kit and upgrade later the tpi regulator will not work with the HSR!
as ffar as the torque loss your not actually losing it your just moving it up the power band, you will lose some at lower rpm pick up some at higher rpm, also the timing change will help at low end ... the 4000 rpm "wall' as a lot of people call it will be totally gone the engine pulls to redline and past if your not carefull..your 3.23 gears will help also if you had 2.73 or 3.08 like most tpi cars the torque loss is felt more..back to the press regulator your press should be at least 43 lbs at idle with the vacuum line off,the regulator that came with my fuel rail only produced 36 and the holley adj one would never hold there press ,this is you should get a good quality reg and some type of gauge and set your press at least 43 lbs and the you can test it with differnt press and see what the car likes
