Polk Audio Speakers

Just bought and installed the Polk db461 4" x 6" in the front, and db691 6" x 9" in the back.

For simply replacing the factory speakers without doing a lot of mods to the car, these are great. my car has a fairly cheap Alpine deck in it, and I just wanted to replace the factory speakers that were there with something nice.

For those of you who like a ton of bass, these won't replace subs, and won't rattle your door panels off, but by no means am i dissapointed. Where these speakers really shine is in the sound clarity, which is the most important thing to me.

The front 4" x 6" speakers barely fit... and i mean barely There is absolutely no clearance anywhere, and you will need to be a little bit forceful to get them in. However, I did not need to break or modify anything to get them to fit.

The rear speakers fit just fine, but you need to use the screws that came with the speakers (longer screws than factory) and you won't be able to put the plastic speaker covers on them unless you get even longer screws. I don't think thats a big deal though, since those covers are ugly and our speakers are usually covered anyways.

i have the same rears and installed them in there original place didnt like the sould so i bought the 6x9 speaker boxes and mounted them on top of my rear seat and the bass is so much better.i also have a 600 watt amp which made them really punch out the bass.these speakers have great highs also

Re: Polk Audio Speakers

Yeah, I bought these speakers more for the mids and highs rather than the bass. I'm not as impressed by the rear ones as i am the fronts, they actually push out some serious bass for little 4x6's.

Re: Polk Audio Speakers

Those fronts are really amazing for small speakers. I can actually feel them pushing air. The fit on them is REALLY tight, but you should be able to get them in without mods, as long as you use the longer screws and put them all in before tightening it down.

Keep in mind, those fronts are 2 way speakers though, not 3 way. I like it that way, but I'm not sure what you have in mind.

Re: Polk Audio Speakers

Good info! I had Infinitys in my previous Firebird, but might give Polk a shot...

Re: Polk Audio Speakers

I know this is totally unrelated, but I use Polk Audio for my home theater setup and their highs are worth every last penny...IMO

I don't know much about car audio, but I couldn't see Polk building garbage where speakers are concerned.

Re: Polk Audio Speakers

I have the Polk's in the front and I love them. I agree with the fitment. They don't leave a lot of wiggle room. I was lucky when I got them. A guy I knew offered to give me the Polk's in exchange for a set of JVC 6x9's I had in my garage. He was barely able to finish his sentence before I jumped on the deal.

most speakers you buy now days are 2 way "coaxial" which are waayy better than 3ways, thats old school. i just got an aftermarket set of 46's and 69's also and theyre really good. im thinking about getting 6.5's with crossovers for crisp clear highs.
