there are a few members on this board that have the BORLA exhaust including myself.
True maybe they are not worth the brand new price but they can be had for around $400 used all day long. I got mine for that price and it was in new condition.

Listen to as many sound clips of different exhausts that TGO members have downloaded here finding those that might match the engine/mods you have done or have planned. You'll get performance of course with a Borla. Sound may or may not appeal to you. If purchased new it does come with inserts that will allow you to make it "tuneable" to some degree.
In short, find sound you like, compare to budget, decide what is important
i have a borla too. i run it with shorties and no cat, with the open plate. it sounds awesome. i reccomend one for every thirdgen. and if you plan to always keep youre car, its stainless so it will last forever. i also ditched the stock tips, i thought they were ugly, so i went with 3 and 1/2 cut ss slash cut tips.
you ditched the Borla tips? why? you must have had the thirdgen tips cause the 4th gen intercooled tips are bad ***....thats what I got. When had my 305 flowmaster I had the 4th gen SS Retangular tips also
I have a Borla XR-1 shootout muffler on my car, it was well under 200 bucks new from Summit, sounds GREAT, only took a little work building the exhaust by using mandrel bends and some tubing.... A good alternative to spending big money on a bolt in system....

yes, i have the thirdgen system. those tip i dont really care for. the 4th gens tips are nice.
my buddy has an 84 z28 with a 350 pushing about 485 hp he put the borla exhaust on it and when he got it dyno tested it dropped the power to about 460
Sounds like it was only dyno'd once, by your description.
How do you know it was about 485 before the Borla?
And no 2 dyno's will output the same number. you generally use the same dyno to get your baseline and then tune on it later.
If your looking for a nice rumble for your car try a goerlich xlerator muffler, it made my 3.1 sound like a beastly v8. I always have people asking me if i have a 350 and they can't believe its a six
I have a Borla exhaust, high flow cat and hooker headers. The sound is great. No it is not window breaking loud but my wife gets pissed everytime I pull of and set all the alarms on my block off.
I actually stop a certain cars and rev a little bit to ensure I get properly announced!!!!
