HUGHES converters???

anyone use any of hughes converters? building a 383 with about 500hp/tq and beefed up the 700r4 and the cam is a XFI280 230/236 .571/.576 and the rear is a stock 3.27 9 bolt.... untill it dies from the 383.

cam asks for a 2400-2600 stall so i was looking at the HUGHES street master converters... havent heard much bout them... everone goes vigilante etc.. its a daily driver and im on a real tight budget.
im not totally sure of the trans i have, its an 87 and i had it rebuilt stronger than stock and im upgrading it within the next 4 weeks with my dad whos rebuilt them. idk how many splines it is till i rip it out, anyone know how many splines a 87 700r4 has? i was also looking at tq converters... gona need around 2400 stall... was gona go with a HUGHES street master 2200-2500 stall 30 spline for 700r4

Re: HUGHES converters???

I have used hughes products before, I have a 700r4 with their full race/master racing kit and about 1500.oo in other parts. I started out with their 2400 stall and was impressed with it for a while, then it quit (Lockup quit working, but im making over 500 hp) I have been told that its too much hp for these converters. I run a vigilante now and couldnt be happier. The shifts seem harder too. It's worth the extra money. The hughes is good, but in my opinion, the vig. is better.

Re: HUGHES converters???

how much hp r u making? how much hp is too much for these converters?? these are the things i need to kno before i buy it. how long did it last, did u get on it alot, alot of track use? yea i hear alot of good things about vigilante... but they are mucho $$$ tight budget... the cheaper the better. this daily driver will see very little track time, mostly just street driving and getting on it. any other converter brands? wat places for the best deals?

i should be in the 470-480 hp range and bout the same in tq.

wat about this converter? 2300-2500 stall

Re: HUGHES converters???

I am making over 500. Car was used for autocrossing, mostly. You should be ok under 500 hp. I dont know what they are rated for, but it only lasted about three months. (About 400 hard miles) The vig is great and now resides in my 86 IROC. (Swapping to a T-56 for more control on the track)
Hope this helps.
