I have a stock 87 IROC-Z with a TPI 5.7 engine and was wondering what are some GOOD sparkplug wires to get,I was considering the MSD 35599 any help?THANKS
I think you can get away without getting anything exotic, especially if your engine is stock. If you want MSD wires it won't hurt to run them. Just make sure they're RF suppression wires or else they'll wreak havoc with your radio reception and ECM.
I run the cheap Accel make-em-yourself wires and I have had no issues.
msd has a set of street fire wires that kragens stocks. they are make em yourself wires, i installed a set on a costomers car the other day and they are a nice piece. thats about the only thing besides an ignition box id use from msd. ive never had good luck with thier coils or distributors.
I was very happy with Taylor wires. I got them from Summit. I had to cut them to lenght and install the distributor terminals and boots. This was the first time I had made my own wires, I would do it again for sure. Only thing I might do different is by a better crimper for the terminals.
I've posted the best wires to get, the Borg Warner Select #CH8833. They're made for a Chevy TBI truck, but they're all 8mm instead of our stock 7mm, and they fit perfectly. I've also measured them to have less resistance than MSD wires or other aftermarket wires. I think they cost around $40, which is also less than aftermarket wires.

I read in another thread that these wires may not be the best choice if you do not have headers. I do not have headers on my pretty much stock 305. Do you know if this would be the case? I ask, because I found a set online for just under $30.00, shipping included. Thanks in advance.

Sorry I dont know, I have never used them on a car without headers.
And every set of MSD wires I have seen have high resistance values, and give you a shock if you touch the distributor while the car is running.

Well I can touch the wires when the engine is running and I dont get a shock.
There may have been some problems with the wires you tested/got.
Due I have several friends thats running the same wires as me and have no problems with them.
