Here's a review on the 3M Do-It-Yourself Fuel System Tuneup Kit.
My IROC has 160k+ miles and has been running sluggish lately and the idleing has been low when the engine is warm, especially while sitting at a light. I was wanting to have the injectors cleaned for months now but I still haven't found a trustworthy/reputable shop and therefore put it on the backburner.
But one day watching Two Guys Garage, they were promoting this 3M Do-It-Yourself Fuel System Tuneup Kit and I thought about giving it a shot. Therefore, after church today I stopped by Autozone to pick it up, but of course they didn't have it . So I went to the O'Reilly's, low and behold, they had it ...$54 after tax (I love O'Reilly's, they always have what I need).
The first step was running the injector cleaner through the throttle body while running the engine; this lasted about 10 minutes to empty the bottle. Once done with that, I had to clean the throttle body and throttle plate...again. However, this cleaner worked really good! After that, it was off to the gas station to fill up and pour in the 3M Fuel Injector Cleaner Fluid. This all took about an hour.
The review???? EXCELLENT! The IROC is now as strong as it was 100k miles ago and the idleing has no longer been an issue. The real test will be in the coming weeks and if my review changes with the upcoming days, I'll let you know. But if you need to clean your injectors....I highly recommend this product; two thumbs up!!
Sounds Similar to a product made by Justice Brothers. Hook the bottle up to an IV and feed it through one of the vacuum lines. Does a great job busting carbon and deposits. Only JB's product was a bunch cheaper. I bet one could make there own IV Bottle and use somthing that burns hot like Lucas. Anyhow im off the topic...thanks for the review!!
__________________ Camaro owner's prayer
The Camaro is my obsessions;
That I shall ALWAYS want!
It maketh me burnout on black pavements;
It leadeth me down the busy freeways;
It restoreth my soul.
It leadeth me in the path of quickness;
For its name sake.
Yeah, though I drive through the valley of RICE,
I shall fear no turbo, for torque art with me!
Thy rod and thy piston, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a track for me.
In the presence of mine enemies;
Thou hast anointed my bearings with oil;
My car overpowers.
Surely traction and victory shall follow me
All the days of my life.
And I shall dwell in the house of the Chevrolet\
Forever and EVER! Amen.
B13 chemtool works wonders. Works as good as all of the expensive ones. 6 bucks buys a big can at autozone. I just run a piece of vacuum line into the can and squeeze the line to vary the flow. i also have a BG intake service machine that will attach directly to a fuel rail and also has the adapter to spray into the throttle body. I use the chemtool out of it all the time.
I've been using seafoam for the last couple years, its worked great i can't say i have any complaints. Just make sure you do it on a nice windy day. It creates a pretty good cloud of white smoke....
I have to agree with the Seafoam treatment- BUT, I'm curious to see what kind of a mileage difference you see after you get over the 'new mod/getting into the throttle more' period .
carzwitballz hope you dont mind but I sent that prayer thing to one of my friends and re-posted in the southwest forums. Gave credit to you, just think a lot more people will like it..lol still laughing about it.
not sure if you all know about this but there is a place called tpis in chaska minnesota that does a whole bunch of tuning and setting up efi systems. i believe that they do cleaning also.
I'm going to agree with the Seafoam treatment... It really works.
I convinced my friend to try in on her 94 Cherokee. I tried to warn her about all the smoke, but she insisted we do it in her driveway in case anything bad happened. Ended up completely engulfing her neighbor's garage sale in thick white smoke
Anyway, after it was done smoking she took it for a test ride. When she got back she was almost in tears because it ran so much better (She really loves that Jeep). The Jeep had over 200k miles on it and really needed to be cleaned out.
This 3M kit sounds pretty good tho... I just don't like the high price of it.
I guess it depends on what's causing your hesitation, but seafoam works as advertised.
One experience I've had with it, though, tells me to clean one thing at a time. I hooked up the bottle to my vaccuum line, following the instructions to the letter, and got the previously described smoke clouds. Took the car out, and it ran so much better, I couldn't believe it.
Then I got greedy. With somewhere around a half tank of gas, I dumped the rest of the bottle into the tank, and headed off to a gas station to fill up. After I filled up, the car would not start. Would not even fire. I immediately realized two things: First, the seafoam had done a wonderful job breaking up deposits in the gas tank, so much so that it immediately clogged the fuel filter. Second, I am an idiot, I should have seen that coming. On the other hand, I needed a tune-up anyway. A new fuel filter, plugs and wires, and the car runs great.
nice. this is off topic but i think the other reason why im having hesitation is bec. i need to adjust my tps sensor. but im def sure that my engine needs a good cleaning.
ok ill give it a try and not dump half the bottle in the tank lol. how much it cost? and where could i get it at?
I've seen it sold at Wal-Mart for $6, Autozone for $8, and I think Pep Boys for $8.
And when your doing it, make sure the engine turns off right after you're done adding it through the vac line. Otherwise it will just burn it up and you'll have to redo it. It has to soak for a little bit to do it's magic.
On the camaro the best place is the vac line that is attached to the power brake booster. It is pretty easy to get to. Just unplug it, you will hear a sucking sound, then put the hose up to the bottle and it will pull it through. I was careful not to jam the hose into the bottle, just to let it gently pull some into the motor until about a third to half the bottle was gone. Then shut it off, go make a sandwich, and tell your family to come outside and watch you smoke bomb the neighborhood. After about five minutes, start it up.
