looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

I am looking at getting a cervinis fiberglass cowl hood, and everyone on this site seems to like them. Anyone have any probs with fitment or any other issues. I have also been reading about people putting hood pins in. Is this mandatory for when I race to keep it in place. I am not planning on going 11.5 in the quarter. Any suggestions or comments would be great. And anyone know how much the hood weighs

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

Cervini has very good quality. I have had their ram air hood on my car since '99. Very little work needed before paint and it fit great. The cowl they sell is one of the nicest I have seen and worked with on thirdgens over the years. I suggest it.

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

with the bolt on cervinis hood along with using the stock hinges and latch, should I put hood pins in the front or just leave it with the stock hinges and latch?

No hood pins!
O wait. I'm not sure of the regulations for drag racing.

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

I'd go with hood pins for any fiberglass hood in the front just to be safe. I've seen too many go flying over the years.. If you really hate hoodpins there is a nice metal cowl hood out there i'd kill for.. I think goodmark makes it? I'm probably wrong..

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

I don't think hood pins are required for a aftermarket fiberglass hood, are they?

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

Just to keep everyone updated. I just took the car to the track with the cowl hood. My max speed was 117, and the hood did not even move. And thats without hood pins. The latch is new, along with the struts. Hopes this put it to rest.

Re: looking at getting a cervinis cowl hood

I tried new replacement from a local parts house. They were too strong for my cervinis. I found some nos shock absorbers from the 80"s z28 that had a fiberglass hood. They work great. Some also just use old shocks that no longer hold up the metal hoods.
