I like the look of the big block, i need one with space cause i put a 350 with a high rise manifold and a 4 barrel holly carburator in my 86 iroc z. The interior is all torn out and i am going to build EVERYTHING in my own style (when it comes to the interior). If anyone has cool pics or designs of interiors then I would love the help. I live in fayetteville NC if anyone has a shop around i may stop in to have some work done

I don't know how much room a big block hood will give you but I do know that a Goodmark cowl hood has a true cowl opening to allow for some more room. I have the 2.5in cowl and the opening is about 15in in die. And adds close to 3in in hight. If you went to a higher cowl I would think it would allow for even more room. By the way the Goodmark hood is a all steel hood and I don't think you can find a better made hood. Heres a photo.

Hey I appreciate it, I am not a really big fan of the cowl, 1 cause everyone has them and 2 I just don't like the look that much but I do appreciate the pics, this on actually impressed me, Your car?
Yeah.....But that cowl hood is functional, which to me means alot over some hood thrown on to make a car "Look cool". Yes its nice to have your car look good but if something is just for looks, to me it is a waste of money and can lead to embarasment by people who have a better car (faster) when they challenge you and your car only "Looks fast". I am NOT saying these things about your car spesificaly. just a general statement and my opinion. I know you have all laughted at a ***** or any number of other people who stick things on thier cars to make them look cool or fast. When infact they make them look cheap and funny for that matter. But yes the "Big block hood is a nice looking hood. I just dont know how practical. and if I am gonna spend big bucks I am going to want something to perform as well as look good.
Yes , thats my baby. Started as a salvage from a wrecking yard. I just did not want to see her die. So I brought her back to life. The Big Block hood is also one of my favorites . I like that aggressive look. I picked the Good Mark Cowl hood because I wanted a all steel hood with a working cowl to fit my plans for a open air filter element with a x-stream filter top. That way it will pull air directly from the cowl opening. If they made a steel Big Block style hood that pulled air from the cowl and freed up some room I would have gone that way. Its a shame they do not. Best luck to you with you car. I'm sure you will enjoy working on and seeing your efforts come to life as much as I have.

Yea I am working on a system to move air through the engine with out causing too much drag but I need to start with the dynamic of the hood. I am not to worried about performance because I will make work! But I actually like your cowl, is it actually functional?
The hood is fed by the positive pressure created at the base of the windshield. The 'hood' system starts to become effective around 35+ MPH by providing good clean but more importantly, cooler air. Cowl induction systems work well if put together properly. Usually there is a air box that fits under and around the air filter assembly and seals to the hood when closed. That isolates the air filter from the hot engine air and allowing the carb or TBI to pull air while the cowl opening pushes cold air . Thats the idea. Even when the car is sitting still you can hear my TBI unit pulling air through the cowl and then down through the “x-stream” filter top. Sounds awesome.

I had a stock hood fly open doing 55 on a highway. After that I put hood pin on anything I own. And I like the look.

I have the GoodMark 4" steel hood, nice piece, the cowl really does work, does a nice job isolating the intake from the motor and flows lots of air through the back of the hood....
i know your not looking for a cowl hood, but if you do, these guys have hoods in steel and fiberglass plus they have a LOT of fiberglass pieces for our cars. i havent gotten one yet but ~next week ill be getting one from these guys. 315 bucks for a pin on, and 415 for bolt on.
