Mufflex 4" catback

I tried seaching but didn't find too many posts about the 4" exhaust so I thought I would share my experience. I installed a 4" Mufflex exhaust with a Spintech muffler a couple of weeks ago. I also used a dual 3" to 4" y merge from flowmaster. Clearance is awsome, I have the same amount as before with my crappy fabbed 3" exhaust becasue the 4 inch fits better and can be tucked up tighter to the tq arm. I also have my car lowered and have not had any issues with the 4" over the axle.

The "thud" "thud" "thud" I had before under load in 6th gear when cruising at 60-80mph is also gone thanks to the Flowmaster y pipe. The setup is a little loud for me but has little rasp and is very deep at idle. From 2K-3.5Krpm its very throaty and by the time it gets close to 7K rpm it screams. Driving down a narrow residential street with trees or fences on both sides will set off car alarms all over the place

I felt no loss of down low torque but really noticed how easier the RPM's climbed once over 5K. All in all I am pretty happy with the exhaust and would reccomend anyone that needs a 4" system on a lowered daily driver to go for it. Too bad they never made the system in stainless!

Re: Mufflex 4" catback

My wife has the camera at a golf tourney right now. I can grab some tomorrow. The one thing I should add is the tips could be better but they didn't have too many options. Personally I wanted the hidden dual turn down tips but with a 4" exhaust and 3" tips I was told that there was not quite enough room for the passenger side to work as the 4" enters the muffler right there. I just didn't care for the single exit exhaust as it looked unbalanced IMO.

I will try to grab an exhaust clip of the car at idle, ect. The spintech muffler could be more stealth as its the size of a small microwave but at the end of the day I wanted flow with no restriction so it was a trade off I guess

I did buy the y merge from them but its made by Flowmaster and comes right in a Flowmaster box. As for the complete y-pipe it was a custom made peice.

Mufflex doesn't sell the LS conversion y pipe unfortunately even tho its mentioned on the website. Its pretty simple to fab, I just had two pieces of 22.5 degree mandrel bent angles that I gave to the exhaust shop. They had no trouble making the y pipe fit my Drews x member.

Nice pics. You weren't kidding about the muffler being the size of a microwave! haha I have the single outlet 4" mufflex and the muffler looks considerably smaller.

Re: Mufflex 4" catback

I just installed it on my 92 Z. I had to do some modifactions to the y pipe because I have a BMR transmission mount that relocates the torque arm from the tranny tail shaft. It looks and sounds awesome. I had true duals with spin tech mufflers before and I thiught that I was going to give up some sound quality. Not true, it in fact sounds much better and I have lost all the resonance in the car. Its great and the guys at Mufflex were great to wrok with.
