Has anybody had any problems like this with window sweeps? I purchased this piece from 1AAuto to replaced the failed factory window sweep. It was rotted and falling apart so bad chunks of rubber were missing from it and allowing water to free fall down into the door. In the video, you can see where I had to encase the bottom of the door in POR-15 to repair all the damage.
The new window sweep from 1AAuto imp-ressed me initially. I thought it to be a quality piece, until today. I installed it on my car and the install did not go easy. Several of the screw holes towards the front of the car did not line up correctly and it took an extreme amount of wrestling to get it bolted to the door. Then, tonight as I was warming up my car, I noticed the window sweep was allowing a pretty decent amount of water down into the door. There is a fine gap between the sweep and the window in several areas. Big enough to fit maybe 1 - 2 sheets of printer paper into. You can see in the video numerous areas where water is running down the window beyond the sweep and pooling at the bottom of the door.
I made sure the piece was attached to the door correctly, adjusted the window guides as tight as I could get them without causing the window motor to bind and I even tried rolling the window all the way down and kneading the window sweep down hoping it would form the rubber more towards the window. The only other solution I can think of is to shim the window sweep, but then I am concerned about it creating a gap where it meets the door.
From what I've seen on TGO, 1AAuto and Tony especially have excellent customer service, but if this is a problem with all of their window sweeps, I can't see them doing much to fix it.
Between being zoomed in SO CLOSE initially & poor lighting, I can't tell what I'm even loking at.
You really should contact any seller first seeking resolution, before posting a problem publicly. Then you could report of quckly/easily any problems are resolved, or a seller's lack of ability/willingness to correct any issues. As with any install of anything, it could always be an instal problem, not a product problem.
Yes I know the quality of the video isn't the best, because it was taken using a cell phone, at night. But I simply don't understand how you don't see the dark streaks running past the sweep and down the window. They're SO obvious.
Yes I did contact the seller before making this post. I spoke with Adam who said he was going to research the issue and give me a call back tomorrow.
And yes I agree it COULD be installer error. That's why I'm making this post to get everyone's opinion who has been down this road before but honestly, It's a freakin' window sweep. You take out the screws, pull the old one off, slide the new one on make sure everything is lined up correctly and put the screws back in. Pretty straightforward.
BTW, I really appreciate you making my situation look asinine.
well i ordered mine on monday and should have them tomorrow. i will reply with how mine fit- but I am really hoping that there is no issue like that. I dont want nor need any more rust.
There aftermarket, what do you expect? None of that stuff fits like factory. I bought a set somewhere off line and they where JUNK! I then bought a set from the dealer, GM OEM. And even those didnt fit perfect. A few holes where a little off. And I piad $130!!!
I know I'm off the clock, but I wanted to chime in so I could subscribe to the thread. I've been working with our supplier on a similar issue on a recent batch, so I'll do some more digging. Feel free to call me directly so I can make sure you're taken care of properly.
i installed them on my car a month or two ago after new paint . when i removed the old ones ( from the factory ) the holes were not all filled , several screws had never been installed . screws were not installed where they should have been . all that being said , mine fit great , seal good , love the quality . now i installed screws where they should have been . if your not happy , you did not install them the way the factory should have . the factory line workers were not perfect . adjust & do it the way it should have been . good luck .
The piece did not line up corrently to begin with . THERE IS NOTHING TO ADJUST!
Just because you had a good experience with something, does not mean any and all problems with that product are user errr.
I think what he means is that, chevy probably didn't have a measured out exact location for these screws to hold the sweep into place. The guy on the assembly line might have had a general location to zap the sweeps into the door.
We did get together with the manufacturer on our end and went as far as sending them a few sets that we had on the shelf over here to see if there was a batch issue.
They compared ours to the OEM set that they have and we were told that they were an exact match and there weren't any imperfections.
If anyone has any issues with fitment for any reason, please contact Dan and we'll help to resolve the issue for you.
Thanks guys, we appreciate the business and try to the best of our ability to source out the best parts in the industry, I even help some of these manufacturers to test fit product.
If there's ever an issue with a product that we sell you're not stuck with it we'll help you out.
The piece did not line up correctly to begin with.
My original GM sweeps have elongated or what I would consider additional holes on each side of the car. I did this to the new sweep and it lined up with the holes in my door just fine. Seems that consistency of the holes was not a concern to GM, so the holes may need to be adjusted to fit your car. I posted this on another review of the 1A sweeps as well, figured I'd add it here for anyone doing a search about the hole locations.
As far as the leak, not sure. Was the door closed during that video? You can also, to a degree, adjust the angle of the glass relative to the door so its possible if the door is open even with the two felt adjusters that the outside felt strip would not line up and seal. I'm guessing this is not the issue with your car, but could not hurt to check.
I've installed both Original GM AND aftermarket sweeps and concur that even the holes on the OEM sweeps didn't all line up. I've since installed 4 (or maybe 5, who counts anymore?) sets from 1AAuto and have had NO problems whatsoever. The sets on my SC and TA have been in place >4 years now.
When drilling new holes for the ones that will inevitably not line up you do need to make sure the hole is far enough below the top, horizontal edge of the door to keep the sweep tight to the door AND angled towards the window. I was sloppy once on a set early on and wound up re-drilling some mounts to tighten it up. If I had left it that way it would have done exactly what you claim yours is doing.

Well on a frameless door the door needs to be closed to before it will all seal properly. Even so there will always be some water getting in the door even on a brand new car. Frameless glass is extremely hard to seal reliably and really hard to adjust the glass just right and once the new weatherstrip sets in a while you often have to fine tune it again.
I bought GM ones and while the driver side went on perfectly, the passenger side was a job and the holes didn't come close to lining up. I ended up drilling mostly new holes and got it to fit satisfactorly.
That being said, you're always going to get some water in the door and GM knows this. Thats why they have drain holes at the bottom.
