Re: Silk Automotive Racing Seats

So how do you go about mounting these seats in the car? Do you actually have to make sliders or can you modify the universal ones they provide?

Re: Silk Automotive Racing Seats

IMO, seats are an area where I wouldn't cheap out. I wouldn't want to risk my safety in hopes of saving a few bucks.

Go with a good name brand instead of these cheap ripoffs. Corbeau, Sparco, Cobra, etc.

I for one have paid Big Money, for some of the seats you have listed.
and have found some of the newer seats to be Just as good, if not better.
with the way they are put together,

the days of shelling out $800 to $1000 for a set of seats are over.

you can spend $400 on a set of seats now. and get any color you like.

ill also tell you, even if you spend $800 on a set of seats you will still have to Buy the brakets to Mt them..lol

the Big thing you get for your Money is $60 in cloth that Holds up better to the Sun,.I not spending $400 to get $60 in better cloth.

today you can By 2 sets of seats for the price of 1 set. and replace them. in place of cleaning..after all, in 5 to 7 years of seats getting used.. they are not going to look new.. so what will you do..get them recoverd? for what $300... or just get a brand new set.. and sell off your old seats?

the Big thing with top name brand seats.. is Just that.. Brand Name.
THATS a 10 on the kewl scale.. everbody knows you spent Money..
How do they Look in 8 years of driving...

the other Big thing is will you like your New seats.. spend $800 AND see?

or spend $300 and see? i have sit in about every make of seat there is.
i never missed a SEMA Show. Las Vegas was my Home town..
you want to see every thing from anybody who is into car parts.. you Must go to a SEMA show..

i will never spend $800 on a set of seats a 2nd time

i want
steel frames
bubble stich seams
and a good fit
that will hold up for 5 to 8 years of hard use..
(more would be fantastic) but i can by a new set with what i save.

but spending More money to get top name brand seats is Cool.
and guys will always do it.. would you spend $1800 on a set of race seats..they sell them..

has we move forward. there will be new name brand seats.. just like new fast cars.
as for the safty for after market seats?.. How safe is a factry seat?
plastic? steel? alum? or all 3.. if you feel better shelling out $800 for a set of seats then do it.

alot of guys who have done that. and say theye the best! need to sit in more then Just the 800 doller seats they just paid for.. me iv done the $1000 seat thing.. but this is not my first HotRod.
so i can say..i go with what I know works...

fit
feel
How they are put together
what they are made of
and LOOKs

Best $400 I ever spent on seats

Re: Silk Automotive Racing Seats

I'm sorry that I feel my safety is worth the extra $2-300. The cost in this case also goes into R&D. The pos "tuner" seats I have seen in this thread are just crappy, cheaply made copies of name brand seats. Don't get me wrong, I am not the type that thinks that paying money gets you better products. I try to find the best deal I possibly can but there's a reason you will never see no name seats like this thread is talking about in a legit race car.

FWIW the new set of seats I am looking at from Corbeau only run around $400ish I believe and the sliders are another $100 for the pair (which I already have). And those sliders 100% bolted in with zero problems. I didn't have to hack and cut things up like some people do when using universal sliders.

If you are going to throw out insults then far be it for me to keep this civil. You have the reading comprehension of a 3rd grader. Never once did I equate higher price with better quality. I said the more expensive seats have had more r&d time done compared to the ripoff companies that just throw together some metal and shape the foam so that it looks like the more expensive seats.

Furthermore, I don't give a damn how fast your car is. It could run 6's and I would still say I don't want those crappy seats. Have you ever seen a seat fold in half in an accident? I sure have. And your infinite drag racing wisdom doesn't mean squat because a cheap seat is a cheap seat.

As for the seats I was talking about above that I am considering, they are the Forza model. Here's the link:

http://www.corbeau.com/products/fixed_back_seats/forza/

Right now I have the VX2000 seats and like them a lot. They would be great for a daily driver because they offer some support but not to the point that they would be uncomfortable. I just want a little more support instead so I am considering selling them.
