Covans Classic gauges

Hey guys I was wondering if anybody has one of these covans classic gauges in their car. I would like to get my original gauges rebuilt but a friend of mine told me about covans. Are they any good?

Autometer has a good name, so I doubt that you'd experience any problems there. That said, these clusters are not plug and play. The harness requires modification as well as replacing some senders.

Ahh ok. I was wondering about that too. Would it just be cheaper to buy a cluster like this or get my orginal gauges rebuilt. I guess the other alternative would be find another gauge cluster from another car and swap that in.

If you like your OE gauges, I suggest hitting your local dealership for new ones--I doubt that they've been discontinued, but, of course, you never know. Or baring that, the JY have thousands of clusters/gauges. Be selective and you should come out fine.

Thanks I'll look into it. I would be surprised if the dealers still had new gauge clusters for our cars. A lot of places act like thirdgens didn't even exist now.

Not new clusters, but individual gauges. Been awhile, granted, but I bought a new one (fuel?).

You just need to buy some sending units and match up to your factory harness. Pretty simple. Covans does send instructions nad there is a thread on someone who did the switch (just need to search).

SinisterZ has them in his car...

Here's the complete install of the Covan cluster (the text is interesting but so are the pics):

Re: Covans Classic gauges

Thanks guys for the information. My temp gauge is out and the tach is also on its way out. I'll check out covans and look around for the individual gauges in the junk yard next time I go

Re: Covans Classic gauges

I have them in my car. They took most of a Satureday to install them correctly. Only thing I dont like about them is that the lower gauges are hard to see.
