Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
My ride is now at Don Davis race cars in El Paso TX. He will be building my subframe connectors and a 3 point strut tower brace as custom one off pieces. With the subframe connectors he is also setting my pinion angle and deleting my torque arm so the rear end will be set in place at all times. If anyone would be interested in a group purchase I will be posting pics as soon as they come available and prices will be posted also. Each piece will be made off of my 91 formula. just subscribe to this thread for updates and pics then after seeing the work let me know if you want one made for your car also. If there is enough interest he will start to market his items for the thirdgen world. I would expect the finished product within a month and a half

so he's making it completely rigid in the rear? or putting some sort of ladder bar setup?

Why would you mount the axle solid in the car? You mean you will have no suspension in the rear at all?

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
So the pinion angle will be set solid, not the rear axle? Your previous post made it sound like the axle itself will not move in the car. The equivalent of a hard tail bike. No suspension at all.
I'd defiently need pics to understand whats going on.

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
uh no tomorrow we take out the stock fuel lines and the BBK fuel pump to install my new lines and pump. I haven't found a good pic online of what is going on. but maybe this will explain it better. Delete torque are and install a bracket next to the rear end to set pinion angle, will still have rear suspension

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
You should have some pictures by now. The way you try to explain things is very confusing. We understand that the torque arm is getting deleted but what kind of suspension are you going to have? 4 link, 3 link, ladder bar, truck arm, etc?

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
ok the rear suspension will not change but the bracket for the rear end will change. no pictures yet as the framing for the impalas IRS is being powder coated. Also I can only make it out to the shop on the week ends bc the Army has me to busy during the week I'll post pics when I get them. As I said before this project is going to take a minute

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
so it sounds like he is making the torque arm adjustable for pinion angle. Hope he is not going through all that hassle on a stock flimsy torque arm.

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
this is a South Side Machine set up. (long out of biss after 15+ years)
the lower bars, pivet on a subframe cross member, up front (about 43" inchs forward) of the gears,I think this is a type of a set up, that hes talking about, or close.
(this is so you Guy get it)..lol
Forgive the rust and Dust, its been sitting for the last 8 years
SSM Hands down the Best SFC Ever made!!
and no torque arm. cant see it in this photo. but it's GONE, ya dont need it with this set up.

Re: Don Davis race cars subframe and tower brace
looks like a bad idea to me...
why would you do that. a torque arm is perfectly suitable to a car running slower than 9 sec in the 1/4
and it allows you to turn as well.
