I'm not sure if this belong in the aftermarket product review section but I figure as this got no input in the Suspension section I'd try here. I know this question comes up everyone once in a while, but I have never seen any definitive answers (if there are even any):

So in this months issue of Popular Hot Rodding, they ran a special section on steering improvements. After the section on rack and pinion units, they covered steering boxes, stating that with new upgraded units you can get 90% of the improvement of a rack and pinion unit by incorporating a rack and pinion type spool gear. Not sure what that is. They listed several companies that sell new or rebuilt units, and I was wondering what you guys thought were the best options, especially if anyone has tried these units. In particular, does a rebuilt fast ratio box from a third gen compare well with a new unit? I believe mine is worn out and I plan on replacing it soonish. I think its AGR, maybe thats why you could'nt find link.
There is also Lee Manufacturing out here in cali.At least thats where he was located last time i checked.

16:1 doesn't not sound like fun on the street.

I just had my box rebuilt by Lee. I'll let you know how it is in a few weeks.

You could get a 16:1 out of a Astro van, used from the wreckers for $40. I'm leaning towards the AGR box myself!

The problem with 16:1 is that it would take alot more turns of the steering wheels to make the front wheels turn the same amount. It's slower, making city driving more tedious (actual effort will be less, but less of a direct feel) and corner carving would be scary.
