Better than stock Cam

Better than stock Cam
I am basically looking for a cam that is a slightly better than OEM. Not well versed by any means. This is the first motor I have done and have recently had the block baked and new cam bearings installed, as well as both heads machined. I have found one at a local performance shop for 300 but hoping to find something slightly cheaper. Lastly the application is a 90 camaro 305 TBI with hyd lifters auto trans. Thanks in advance

Re: Better than stock Cam
since the LT1s (and the 3rd gen SBCs) are hydraulic roller cams, buying a used one is not a bad idea. Look around some 4th gen fbody or corvette sites, I grabbed one for under $50 shipped in good shape. ebay may have something floating around too, lots of the LT1 owners upgraded to something bigger and just want a couple bucks to get rid of their leftovers

Re: Better than stock Cam
Thanks for the info. I have been told that you should use the lifters from the same motor since they were broke in together. I should be fine with just all new lifters correct? Also you say you have one in the box. Your not interested in selling it are you?
Thanks again

Re: Better than stock Cam
LT1 cam is a great upgrade for a 305.
Might want to replace the springs, locks and retainers with GM ZZ4 ones while you're at it. Try GMpartsdirect.com.
ZZ4 springs - 12495494
Locks - 19171528
Retainers - 12495503
Great price.
You don't have to replace the springs but it's cheap insurance...and when you upgrade to a ZZ4 cam and TFS 305 heads, you don't have to do the springs!!
