Billet fuel door!!!

Hey guys, I've been talking to Jim from custom billet works and I've been askin if a direct bolt on billet fuel door would be able to get done?. He has provided me with an answer and it it yes it is!! The price might be a little steep but in my opinion I think it's worth every penny to have a custom one of a kind piece other than some other vehicles fuel door right?!

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

Its worth what someone will pay for it. How much your willing to spend to get a 1 off piece made. Jim does awesome work. Im guessing you cant find anything on the market already that you like?

Is he gonna do it like stock just aluminum? or like the mustang one but bolt on for your car? http://www.americanmuscle.com/cdcbufudo9.html

Yea it is gonna be a bold on piece, push/ pull to open like the ones for mustangs and the prototype is gonna be expensive but after every ones gonna get theirs for around 150.

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

Cool. I do billet parts to is why I asked. (I wouldnt do fuel doors) because for how easy it is to make the mustang one work on our cars its not worth all the design and trial n error work. You have R&D time. programming time, etc.. You will have a nice piece in the end. Jim does nice stuff.

That's cool And imma be taking most of the hit the prototype is 700 but in the end I think itll be worth it giving everyone a custome piece not available in n e market. And how much moding does it take to use a bullitt mustang one?

Not much, it fits perfectly in the recess. Mine is glued in place with 2 part epoxy. Trim the plastic trim a little and that's it. I've painted mine flat black since the install.

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

Yep. Your paying for design time. And proto typing. Still 700 is a lot of $ to dish out unless your gonna sell those in bulk. Take my word for it. You might sell 2dozen or so. But your prob. Gonna have to buy 10 at a time or more to get a good deal.

As said above the mustang one doesn't take much work at all. The link I posted the staang one is 54bucks. I'm sure you could always try local parts stores also.

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

Yea that would work and what if I used 3m tape instead of glue if one day I'd decide to paint my car another color? U think it'll stick good?

I used a scuffing pad on the door to get the paint to stick real good. I wouldn't trust the 3m tape since there's not much recessed surface to work with.

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

Use 3m panel bond. And yes scuffing it would be just fine for painting it.

It looks good painted, and adds at a little something to that style/scheme of car he is looking for.

did any of the screws line up, or is it being held in solely by glue??

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

To me when you first said "billet" fuel door I pictured a large shiny round disk totally disrupting the cars paint scheme. But the black car above has polished aluminum wheels and the wheels and cap does compliment each other
and that should be enough to pull it off. It’s hard to get a good idea with only close ups. You need a complete side shot.

The door is held on with 2 part epoxy only. Since the pic was taken I've wrapped the car along with the door as you can see in the sig.

Re: Billet fuel door!!!

I see this 2-1/2 year old thread has been recently revived, but it looks like the Custom Billet Works product never panned-out, and this thread became about the Mustang fuel door. I'm not into the "LOOK AT ME" appearance of the aluminum finish on a black car, but the subtle appearance of pwdbychevy's black fuel door looks very nice. So in viewing the link in post #2 to the Mustang fuel door, I see that it's available in gloss black, and it's only $36.
