Comp Cam xe284h

As part of my winter rebuild, ive decided to upgrade my high engergy cam to an extreme energy cam, im looking at xe284h, which has 240/246 duration and 507/510 lift, now i have a couple of questions, my camaro is basically my summer cruiser and spends lots of time on the road during the summer, is this too big of a came for a street car? I want a big cam cause I plan on doing some bracket racing this year. The other question I have is I want to put 1.6 rockers on it, which will increase the lift to 540/544, I need to know whats the most lift a stock chevy 350 can handle with piston to valve clearance. Thanks for any help

I have the 274 Xtreme Energy in my motor..355..10.1.It is 230/236 and .487/.490.This cam is very streetable, could drive the car everyday if I didn't work so far away.I had enough of piston to valve clearance left with flat top Manleys pistons and AFR 64cc heads. If you go with the 284 cam,you will need to get a stall of course, plus with 1.6 rockers you will be cutting clearance close at .540/.544.Anything over .480" lift should be checked for intererence.I would say to go with the same cam as I have, the 284 will be pushing it with low vacuum,it will be hard to keep your brakes working right(read no brakes around town). With the smaller cam,you will still have nice torque down low which is what you feel on the street, but it pulls to 6,300 everytime.Best bet I would say is call Comp, tell them what you have and see what they recommend.Hope this helps ya some, any questions feel free to ask.

The risk you run is a lazy motor in the rpm band up to around 3000. It probably won't have as much torque up to 3000, which won't be much fun on the street. Higher ratio rocker arms will just exacerbate the problem. Try a step or two smaller, as the other fellow said. It is always nice to have things like brakes when you need them

It may be awhile before you get a response...You just brought a 7 year old thread to the top.

but with your 406 ci the 284 would work better than it would in a 350.

1 have the 274 in my 350 and it is a great street cam for a 350 . am very happy with it. can drive it anywhere and it will run low 13's in a heavy street car with very mild 350
