cam questions

i have the edelbrock Performer RPM power package on my 350. I know edelbrock says that they made 421hp on a 9.5:1 comp 350. my question is do you guys think i will be around that? Or is there something edelbrock isn't telling us that they did to the 350? my 350 is 9.5:1 com. should i expect to be close to the 400 mark?

They are talking Crank #s on an engine dyno. Put it in a car and HP/TQ will drop by I would say at least 20% in this case. So almost 90 some HP. If everything is up to spec, exhaust, tuning, etc. Then you should be similar to there results. Cats, assessories, drivetrain loss, smaller headers, mufflers, etc all will kill HP that they do not compete with on a engine dyno.

hope this helps

Matt

To reduce drivetrain losses you need to go to all synthetic lubricants. If you have drum rear brakes make sure they don't drag. If you have disk rear brakes make sure they are working properly and pulling the pads away from the disk when you let off the brake pedal.

Do all the above and just make sure that your carb tuning is ok and you have a good ignition curve with 34deg advance total (without vac advance hooked up atabout 2500rpm+) and you're there: 400+hp at the crank!!!

Those Dynomax shorty headers WILL PREVENT YOU FROM REACHING 425HP!!! Gotta get real headers, especially if you're gonna use a blower later, anyway. Also, the single exhaust will hurt as well. Gotta get true dual with "H" pipe.

Spend money... HAVE FUN!!!

i jave had a little bit of fun but man i have spent money. i just ordered more stuff from Summit a few minutes ago. For right now those headers will do and the 3" exhaust may cut back on a little hp but I know a lot of guys running 383'sw/blowers and using that set-up. it just costs too much for a true dual set-up on a thirdgen too bad the factory didn't have more brains when they made these cars.
