If anybody is looking for the ultimate 383 then visit Golen Engine Service.com. I bought their 460hp 383FI. The only person that you deal with is Chad Golen. Owner of the company. He is the nicest person I have ever delt with. I live in NJ and he is out of NH. I drove up to meet him and dropped off my intake setup and distributor complete with throttle body and injectors. Also all of my sensors and wiring harness. Also brought up the valve covers I wanted.
Chad kept me updated as the engine was built and put it on the engine dyno so i knew what i was getting. There was a small fee for the dyno but well worth it. After the engine was complete we setup a time for me to pick up the engine. Since I live close enough it was easier for me to go pick it up rather then having it shipped. I was given the dyno results and a complete build sheet for the engine.
Chad also put me in touch with Alvin at PC for less.com who does the tuning for his engines. When I finally got the engine in the car, it fired right up and idles smoother then I could ever have expected. Between Chad's service and Alvin's tuning it makes a killer combo. If you are looking for the most personal service and the highest quality engine you can find go to GOLENENGINESERVICE.com and check them out. Like I said before you will deal with Chad Golen himself when you call, and he will make sure everything goes right. If any problem arises he goes above and beyond to make it right. I had a slight issue with my headers fitting the angle plug heads and he made sure to do everything he could to help.
If you call him or e-mail him please mention my name Chris Phillippi to him.
Although I've never dealt with them, Golen is very highly recomended, especially in the B-body world. I have seen many Golen engines making serious HP.

On the other side of the coin.....got a 383 from them and it was the biggest piece of crap you could ask for...blewup and hour after it was started.
His comment...send it back (you pay the freight) and then charged another $700 to fix it. That lasted two hours and blewup.
Final result...the block was junk. It was redone here and the block replaced.
I am not getting any type of kick-back or anything. I just want him to know that I reccomend him to people. He is a great person to deal with. And for Dyno Don's problem, something had to be up to loose 2 engines that fast, but it can happen. I have had a rebuilt jasper block go bad in less than a day on one of my friends cars. In either case, one of my buddies with an Impala has never heard a bad thing about him.
i have a golen 383 in my car for over a year now and no problems besides tuning issues. i also got a bin from pcforless and not happy with it. car falls flat on its face in mid rpm range. if your going with efi set up there is no comparison than to have it done on a dyno rather than thru the mail
Did you send a DATALOG to Alvin. The first tune he sent me did the same thing. i sent him a datalog and he modified the bin. After that it was great. I had sent him 2 more datalogs after the first mod he made and the tune just keeps getting better. Im in NJ and the olny places around here that do dyno tuning work on mustangs and wont touch my third gen. I have tried tunes from TPIS and Fastchips, but my car wouldn't even idle. And my old engine was a stock 350 with heads and a cam. Ran fine with a stock chip but not with TPis or Fastchips. Either way if you know of a place in NJ that does dyno tuning please let me know. I would like to have it done.
I have to say my experiences with Chad have been great thus far. His shop is about 2 miles from my house which is nice. Last winter he went through my heads that I bought from a member here before I put them on the car. As part of the process I wanted a set of Comp 986-16 springs put it to handle my cam.
When everything was done I invested about $200 with the springs, retainers and locks. The heads were cleaned and checked to be sure they were good to go. When I picked them up they looked brand new.
He also sent me to Alvin for the tune. Right now I am working on the baseline. In the next couple weeks I will be performing some data logging to fine tune it for best performance.
Chad is highly recommended in my book. All the guys he has working for him are just as good to deal with.
