It is basically just a butterfly valve. You pipe it straight into your exhaust. Normally the valve is turned blocking airflow out the side, thus causing all the exhaust to go through the rest of the system. When you pull the cable, the valve opens on the open side, and closes the exhaust system side.
Ive heard from numerous people this style leaks. Just get a $30 weld in and do it manually, or if you have the money, get an electric.
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to use a manual choke???? Its easy to pull, but the "push" doesnt work so well. I dont know how they expect it to seal.

I have used a manual choke, it's alright to me, it is a pain to put back in, and it does look like it would leak.. kinda afraid of it, I might just get an electric cutout instead.

I have been kinda looking, and always liked the tunnel ram street scoop, I've been questioning my self if it would be even a good idea to do it, or how it would look, There is a member on here that has done it, and I like it, but I dont want to make it look like a red-neck or some white trash car.
Anyway, The engine I'm looking at has a High rise intake and I dont think it will fit under my hood with my air breather, and I dont want a hood cowl. well, Im thinking about cutting a hole in the hood and put this street scoop on, but would water get into it? would anything get into it and get into the carb?
Tim, I hear that the motors for the electric cutouts don't last. It seems that they don't like heat.
As for the street scoop. I like the way they look. It will only look "red neck" if you run stock size wheels and tires. You need meat on the back tire to continue the mad motor look. Will you get water in it? If you drive in the rain you will. The filter inside will stop bugs dust ect. but this is a set up for nice weather and racer wanna be looks only. Not for daily use.

I had a feeling for electric cutouts would go out because of the heat, and I was afraid of it, was hoping they could with stand it, but I would feel much safer opening it up and closing it manually my self, with a plain way just getting under the car and do what I have to.
I have seen what a street scoop look liked in flesh before, kinda worried me about the water getting in it. but by the time Im done with the camaro, it be more just show and not a daily driver anymore.

I'm hoping to put that in for my school project, to get credit for an Ag management class.
I will take pictures of it, knowing how it will turn out, i will cut a hole in the hood for the street scoop, (or maybe get a iroc daytona hood, but still afraid of the clearance.)
hopefully I will get money for new rims and tires to make the car look nice.
Sounds good. I would do chassis work before I pumped up the motor. Double that if you have T tops, or you might find cracks in the sheet metal and floor pans!
