I had a poor experience with them in the past but decided to give them another try. Afterall, they help sponsor this awesome site!
I called trying to order the side molding for my 1984 Camaro that was being painted. I was happy to hear they had it. I asked the guy a few questions. I was very specific. He assured me it was the half inch style and that it would come in two pieces, with the points at both ends. I asked again: "So all I have to do is make 2 cuts for the door and I am ready to go?" He said "yes".
Well, a few days later the molding arrived. It was the half inch but it was in one long strip and had no points. I called Hawks and was told that the 1 inch molding is the ones that have the points and is pre-cut, their mistake.
Obviously this was not my fault at all, yet they not only would not refund the 15 shipping fee but I had to pay to ship it back to them!
So essentially I am out 2 weeks time on my project and $25 because their salesman did not know what he was talking about.
Be careful.

My only complaint with Hawks is that they refuse to try to save us any money with shipping. I have ordered small parts that could easily be put in a bubble envelope and shipped in the mail for $2.00, but yet they put it in a huge box and ship it UPS for $15. I ordered a door striker last week and that tiny part came in a box the size of a shoe box stuffed with a dog food bag.
Yeah I don't get it. If they felt they needed to send a box, they could even wrap some bubble wrap around some of the stuff and stick it in a $5 flat rate USPS box.
i just ordered a floor pan from them. they were $50 less on the part and $40 less on shipping then the next lowest(classic industries). the funny thing about this is the part shipped form classic industries so why would classic be charging $40 more then hawks for shipping???

Hey guys just want to make a couple quick responses, as far as the door molding is concerned it should have been pointed on both ends as you where quoted if not I WILL ISSUE A FULL REFUND WITH SHIPPING and get with my manufacture to see what the problem is so please call the office and speak with me and I will personally help you get this handeled. I would also like to respond to what my employees did in this situation and the comments on shipping, as far as both of these are concerned I would like you guys to understand any successful company has to have minumums and rules and regs, for example on the door molding that is why you had to pay shipping back but in my opinion in this instance you should not have had to so we are going to take care of it.
When we talk about shipping please understand with the amount of orders we ship it is not feasable to have a employee go to the post office and stand for 2 hours why 50 or more packages are shipped trust me it is a pain, that is why we ship UPS and have daily pickups at our shop as any other company,we do offer a minimum S&H charge of 10.00 and anything over is charged actuall shipping to the nearest dollar I DO NOT mark up shipping to make money on shipping but I hope all of our customers understand that we do have to have minimums and we want to stay here to support you guys with new and up coming products but to do so we have to have guidelines, I hope all of our supporters understand this and will continue to give us your support.
THANK YOU,
Sincerely, Bruce Hawkins www.hawksthirdgenparts.com
Thanks Bruce I will call tomm. It def did not have points and I called and spoke with a lady- i think named BJ who said the older style does not have points. I asked her about a refund for shipping and she refused. I will call you tomm.

My 84 z28 does not have the points either, but my 86 iroc does. But I understand you want the points and were told you would and you should.

Hey, someone has to pay for the nice cars they own, like that 92 Firehawk, why pay yourself when you can get your customers to do it for ya?
I'll back Bruce up on the shipping thing. I ship tons of stuff with my business, all through FedEx. I do not ship USPS under any circumstances, unless it is to a military member or to Canada. It is just easier to print 10 FedEx tags and leave it on the door step than it is to run around to the post office.

OK, since the reality has long since escaped you, here goes. Bruces customers DO in fact pay him. He, in fact, as you stated so brilliantly does NOT need to pay himself BECAUSE of.......-his customers. ....and it's not an accident either. I imagine if you asked him, that would be exactly WHY he started Hawk's in the first place.
I haven't done any business with Hawks yet, but I have to point out that I don't know of any business owners that will take the time to register and correspond with it's customers and potential customers explaining thier policies and making bad customer experiences better. Shipping sucks for everyone the business owner and the customer, but it's a fact of life. And no matter what your business is, there will be screw ups and mistakes. I think Bruce has made an effort, in the past and all the times I've seen someone tell of a bad experience, to make it right. Just my observation, no offense to anyone involved.
In a nutshell, the purchase conditions of 10 committments was
initiated in late March. By mid April, 10 committments were reached,
and continued to accumulate -- I think we're currently around 13-14.
The upside is that I (nor anyone else reporting in the thread) have
actually had a credit card charge incurred.
The downside is that the status we hear varies between back-order
or slow delivery (4/week) of units from the manufacturer -- the longer
we wait, the longer is the back-order status.
This is beginning to wear very thin.
I'm suspicious that somewhere early on, the end price agreed on
would actually be a loss for Hawks. If so, the whole activity should
have been terminated honestly, instead of hoping that we would
forget about, & just go away.
The board members here seem to represent a sizable market for Hawks,
and other small vendors, like UMI, Thirdgen Ranch, etc.
So Bruce, as far as I'm concerned, its time to fish or cut bait.
Give us some straight info: when the items will be delivered, or
that the price is unrealistic and cancel the existing group purchase.
This is the same as when Summit had their free ground shipping going on, but tacked on a no matter the part size/weight $12 handling fee, so either way you ended up paying for the shipment of the product anyway, even if it was 1 bolt weighing .25lbs. Like Bruce said rules and regulations. Summit no longer does this, and charges shipping per size/weight with no handling now. Kind of a vice-versa.
Plus, Hawks has some parts nobody else offers. I have a good $1200 to spend at Hawks sometime in the future, and will do so with confidence.

When I did the group buy for KLEARZ lenses we payed close to 1 year before we were fully charged. Good things take time, and since its a group buy they are most likely making sure all orders will be perfect with no complaints. Either send now with possible problems or wait with confidence in your local forum sponsor.

Hey Bruce,...Am I ever glad to see your response post in this matter, I am in the process of getting ready to order multiple parts 4 my project, (1-2 items at a time). To start with, I want to order an "IROC foglight grill insert", and get it shipped to Thunder Bay, Ont., "Canada". I was just about to check out other companies' offerings, (after reading some of the "NEGATIVE" input from customers here on TGO), until I read "YOUR" timely post, [thank GOD some auto parts business owners are actually, "CAR" guys and are on top of things. looking forward to doing business with you. (p.s., Are there different locations/shipping depots,[closer], like 4 "Canadian" orders?...eg: extra shipping/ground freight/American$$$funds to Can.$$$funds???], Thanks. *** PPS.*** "Until 100% positive about any company being a "Fall through/falldown", bashing thier reputation on a "LARGE" forum such as TGO, could be devastating to someones reputation, let alone many workers' livlihoods!...[one 2 grow on]...
Spoke with Bruce today, he could not bave been any nicer. I can see where the order was confusing. He took care of the situation and i was very impressed.

Be careful.
Heads up, they sale soft seal weather stripping L piece R piece. They are expensive for their parts. I purchased a larger kit from JC Whitney for 292.00 for a whole weatherstripping kit with window belts. Hood,Rear, Roof Rail, and lower door seals. Jc gives you free shipping and 10 % off. Not to knock hawks but they are overpriced for weatherstripping and shipping.

I'm in that group buy and have yet to hear anything, I've almost but given up on that. Maybe we will here some good info soon...otherwise I may be tempted to spend that $$$ for a good frame to fix my corvette.
I put my name on a waiting list for a spoiler two weeks before I took the car in for paint in April. I got it about a month ago and drove down there to get it. I can tell you these spoilers are WORTH the wait!! My shop said they were the nicest they'd worked on and they didn't have to do ANYTHING to it other than a simple sanding.
I do need to get up with Bruce on a couple things though.

Bruce is not the only parts shipper that did the right thing. Rock Auto's people screwed up one time for me and the owner called me to straighten it out. I would highly recommend a good documented time line of what happened starting from the day the part was ordered hase really helped in solving shipping issues.
